Clippers win battle of old rivals

COLUMBIANA — Host Columbiana downed Crestview, 3-1, in girls soccer action Thursday.

Brianna DiCross scored Crestview’s goal with an assist from Sydney Wellman. Katie MacKay made eight saves in goal.

Canfield 3, Salem 0

CANFIELD — Canfield’s boys soccer team defeated Salem, 3-0, Thursday.

Luke Goodrich had two goals for the Cardinals. Drew Snyder added two assists.

Salem (4-7-1) is at Marlington on Tuesday.

United 2,

Warren JFK 0

WARREN–Maddox Andrea had two goals and Cayden Pitts added on assist as the United boys soccer team blanked Warren JFK, 2-0, Thursday night.

Seth Blake recorded two saves in goal for his second shutout of the season.

United improves to 10-1 and will play at Mathews on Saturday. Warren JFK is now 3-7-1 and travels to Warren Harding on Saturday.

Springfield 3, United 1

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Maddie Page scored three goals, including one on a penalty kick, to lift the Springfield girls soccer team past United, 3-1, Thursday.

Hannah Stouffer and Sami Shafer each had an assist. Ally Guerriero made 14 saves in goal.

Maddy Figley scored United’s goal. Cheyenne Chuck made seven saves for the Eagles.

United is 6-6 and Springfield is 4-6.

Heartland 194,

East Palestine 198

Jack Morgan shot a 44 in leading Heartland Christian past East Palestine, 194-198, in golf action Thursday.

Heartland improves to 10-3, while East Palestine finishes the regular season at 8-8.

Backing Morgan were Jacob Vande Kappelle with a 47, Brady Desantis 53 and Brody Hoffman 54.

For East Palestine, Adam Davis had a 44, Luke Kinkead 48, Hunter Hupp 51 and Xander Pink 55.

EBC

PARIS, Ohio — Minerva had two of the top five individuals to edge West Branch in the Eastern Buckeye Conference Golf Tournament on Wednesday.

The Lions shot a 335 at Pleasant View Golf Club, four strokes better than West Branch, which went 10-0 in the EBC regular season. Marlington was third with a 342 and Carrollton fourth with a 343 as the top four teams were separated by eight strokes.

It was the first time in seven years and second in school history Minerva won the league tournament.

Minerva’s Reid Spall was third individually with a 79 and Jeremiah Smith added an 80.

West Branch — led by Jase Libb’s 78 — ended up securing the league title with its perfect regular season league mark and Minerva was second.
