Salem woman charged with arson
LISBON — A Salem woman accused of starting a fire that created a risk of harm to two firefighters and multiple residents at a Salem apartment building stands accused of two counts of arson.
Alicia Craig, 33, East State Street, was served Tuesday with a secret indictment issued by the Columbiana County Grand Jury for the two first-degree felony charges for the May 2, 2024 fire.
According to a previous story about the fire at the East Sixth Street property, all residents were able to exit without injury when alerted by smoke detectors and were out of the building prior to the Salem Fire Department arriving.
One firefighter suffered minor burns after his turnout coat began to smolder, forcing him to bail out of the structure to be extinguished. Another firefighter injured his knee during the overhaul process after the fire was out. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Salem Police Department both investigated the fire.
