Driver killed in fiery car crash in Yellow Creek Township

YELLOW CREEK TOWNSHIP (WKBN) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly car crash that happened early Saturday morning in Columbiana County.

It happened just after 2 a.m. on state Route 39, just west of the Tenth Street Extension.

Troopers say a 2012 Fiat hatchback was headed northwest on state Route 39 and went off the road on a curve. The car hit a guardrail, an electric pole and two trees, according to a crash report.

The car caught on fire and became fully engulfed, troopers say.

The driver died at the scene, according to the report.

State Route 39 was closed in both directions for about two-and-a-half hours while the crash was cleaned up.

The crash is still under investigation and the driver’s identity has not been released.
