Two killed in weekend crash

PERRY TOWNSHIP–Two people have died from injuries sustained in a crash within the township Saturday.

According to the crash report at approximately 8:16 a.m. Saturday a 2018 Ford Fusion driven southbound on Georgetown Road by Kaylan Jones, 24, Salem, struck a 2020 Toyota Sienna driving northbound by Valerie Donlon, 63, Salem, head on when Jones allegedly fell asleep. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage with airbags deploying and were removed from the scene by Sinsley’s Towing.

Perry Township Fire Chief Brandon Smith said that Jones was transported to University Hospital Portage by the Salem Fire Department, and Donlon was transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital Main by Winona. Both of Donlon’s passengers were also transported to the hospital with the rear passenger Richard Hiner also transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital by EMT, and the front-seat passenger Joanne Hiner Transported to Koons Airport by EMT prior to being transported by helicopter to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital by STAT MedEvac.

Smith confirmed that both Richard and Joanne ultimately succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Smith said that the Winona Fire Department also prepared the landing zone while they remained at the scene of the crash and thanked both the Salem and Winona Fire Departments for their assistance. “We appreciate the mutual aid received from both the Salem and Winona Fire Departments,” said Smith.
