" Most degrees and jobs require continuing education now. If you'd checked.

It's ones choice . Your not going to receive the pay without something "

Think about that the next time you whine about people working at walmart.

"College isn't just for doctors. Almost any thing with a skill level requires some sort of advanced education.. Welder, plumber, carpenter, machinist, etc. "

The trades you mention do NOT require a college degree.

Tressel got the YSU presidency without the "required" advance degree--but he brought other things to the table.

Even with a degree, some people don't know how to write a resume, how to answer questions well at a job interview, how to look at an interview (appearance does matter). Grammar does matter. Manners do matter. And some people are just able to come across better than others.

Unless you're a computer geek genius, you probably need Something beyond HS.

I don't think college is it for everyone, but to make more than minimum, most employers want you to have some set of skills or learning beyond the minimum of HS. Sometimes some of that can be learned on a job, but competition to get started at a job makes having something extra valuable.

Most employers want someone who brings something to the table. They want someone who shows they've had stick-to-it-ness and has finished something already.

Employers want the person who can help them the most. Value doesn't have to mean a degree, but if you don't have experience, you'd better have something.

Watchdog sez.. They will AFTER they leave the area as most of Salem's successful students do. None of them stay here. There are no JOBS.

Bug sez...Leave the area and go where ? Without the skills the job still pays only so much.

Case in point...Me. VA, CA, KY and now TX. Bug, skills come much more from job experience than they do from sitting in a classroom doing more English and algebra and diversity studies.

Actually, it seems they have to be a PHD if they ever want to be promoted to principal or for sure a superintendent.

Did you hear that they are trying to pass an education law that requires after a certain time frame, college students will have to go back to college to bring current a degree obtained by re-eduction?

Yes, I've been hearing about that. I feel bad for teachers. I think that junk has already started for them. They're not allowed to get where they want to be and just cruise to retirement. They're expected to keep playing the college game up to and including a Masters, which costs them out of pocket.

Is your nephew going to earn enough to support a family ,buy a home ,retire . ? If so great.

Good point Bug, now sit and think on that. It seems to me that if he does what he's told, is puncual, courteous, works hard and climbs his way up the ladder; he could do quite well for himself, kind of like his uncle. Wife, kids, nice house and decent retirement can also be his, if he's smart about it. Or he could be a bum and get fired and have crap jobs the rest of his life. Neither route is dependent on college and playing beer pong in the dorm rooms.

And before you start the defense game because you have already claimed your daughter is a nurse, which makes you bias, and you start claiming she doesn't make that, THEN it appears SHE needs to pack up from where she is working and head off to East Liverpool. COMMON SENSE. You don't like what the employer pays find another place of employment.

Now get over it and whine for the nurses that are making $34 bucks an hour. I have no wage sympathy for them. End of story.

Ladybug, the Salem news posted the hospital side of the story and they posted the nurse's side of the story.

I posted the angle from the patient side. If that bothered you to bad to sad.

I did not call them anything. NOTHING. I voiced my opinion of the issue and sided with Patients. Tough luck if you didn't like it.

"Something to compare 1) Less than a high diploma. $22000/yr. 2) High School $31000/yr. Ass Degree $41000/yr. Bach 51000/yr Masters $62000/yr"

Great, glad you found that. Now, you tell me how everybody that holds a master degree is going to find a job to pay them that "college promised" quote if the jobs are not AVAILABLE?

Ladybug you are missing the whole point. We all can't be leveled with degrees. We all can't have the same skills and the same education level. WE ALL CAN NOT MAKE THE SAME MONEY.

Do you know what it would do to this country? It would be the end. There has to be three classes of people to make this country work. It is common sense.

What does my son have to do with anything ? Right education costs are going up. It costs more to build a bridge or road . A house costs more and a car costs more.

Do we quit living.

Think what you want . A education or a trade of some kind will get you more . Believe it or not.

I seen a young man with an engineers degree just double his salary.

Know i'm done

Ladybug, read the poll question. Really read it this time.

Then go back and read your first response. All you tried to do was insult the Salem news and establish that they are just trying to send these kids out into the world with no hope at all and you called the retarded.

Do you not see what you did here? What did your response have to do with the poll question? It is about the rising costs ladybug. The rising cost of education. That rising costs are going to start preventing students from getting education that can not afford it. Ladybug, we can't be taxed to death to guarantee that everybody wants a college education gets one. We are burning a candle at both ends. That vicious circle is coming back around full force.

"I didn't say it was cheap, bug. But it is still cheaper that getting an overpriced bachelor's degree and there seems to be more of a demand right now for persons with skills rather than educations."

That is truth and that is fact and right on rpmwwe. That is NOT what the Education system wants to recognize. There is no money in it for them. That is a fact.
