Reacting to the Malaysian jetliner being shot down, President Barack Obama is calling for an immediate cease-fire between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russia separatists. Think it will happen?

  1. Yes

Obama says that now that this happened there must be a ceasefire.

Obama says that there must be a ceasefire in Gaza.

Related, because what Obama says they should do means nothing.

"Istanbul (AFP) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he has stopped talking to US President Barack Obama on the phone, amid growing strains between Ankara and Washington over Syria and the Gaza conflict.

Turkey, a fierce opponent of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and an open supporter of armed rebel fighters, felt betrayed when the United States backed away from military action against Damascus in September."

What he says, what he does, what he doesn't do--It all matters.

And what he did or didn't do or say then or there (fill in wherever and whatever) matters now in dealing with new situations and old friends and enemies.

And one for more thing Beaumont. What does a cease fire order between Hamas and Israel have to do with Putin shooting down this plane. My response was to questioners remarks about Hama and Israel. Besides that. Whose side would we be on and whose side would Putin be on? We already know Putin answer. For that matter, what about the rest of the world. Whose side would they choose? Get the meaning now?

"If WW3 starts we know what side you will be on, Yes Putin's!!!!"

Beaumont, play nice, I never said that.

With Obama and Kerry under the command of a WW3 scenario is absolutely frightening. Beaumont, Obama is a weak president when it comes to our national defense and security. It is a fact. He is a community organizer. He knows nothing about strong leadership. He wings this crap as he goes.

When you have a president like we do that makes those one liners, cease fire. What is rest of the story? If they don't cease fire then WHAT?

Obama never has a "what" ending. Putin is laughing at him. Which means Putin is laughing at us as Americans. Doesn't that tick you off? It does me.

We don't have cable, so read BBC News. But lately have been watching on PBS (in English) Russian news, French news and Al Jazeera.

I honestly don't know what Putin believes. (As a French guy said, "There's reality and then there's Putin's reality"). But you listen to the Russian news and you could be half convinced Ukraine did it.

While I assume this must have been in the news, I don't remember it (it happened less than a month after 9/11). Anyway, Ukraine shot down a Russian plane, 20 miles off Crimea. Accidentally, during a military exercise shooting missiles at drones. But that would probably help make the average Russian believe Ukraine did it again.

Kerry said social media reports and US surveillance put the missile system in question in the vicinity of the crash before the tragedy.

"We know because we observed it by imagery that at the moment of the shootdown we detected a launch from that area," he said. "Our trajectory shows that it went to the aircraft.

"We also know to a certainty that social media immediately afterwards saw reports of separatists bragging about knocking down a plane and then the so-called defense minister of Donetsk, Igor Strelkov, posted a report bragging about the shoot-down of a transport plane."

Doesn't this stuff just crack you up? Those words by Kerry is what gets us into trouble. Now he has to prove it.

Sheeesh what would Kerry do without social media? LOL

Calling for an immediate cease fire? Ok, and the rest of the story from Obama and Kerry is what if they don't cease fire? Nothing. Can we please impeach Obama and remove Kerry fast before these two dim wits start a WW3?

Putin is making Obama and Kerry look like choir boys. And with those two needle noses it doesn't take much!

Just like the border crisis. Instead of coming together and solving the issue.

It's better to play to the voters for the up coming elections,

Immagration isn't something new.

Come on questioner, He knows who did it. It was a Russian made defense system. Which requires special training and maintenance .

The only thing stopping this man is a firm call by all our allies and nations in the area the area to stop or else. Plus it takes a congress and senate to get behind a plan and back it without all the political theather.

How this all resolves with Russia is going to depend a lot on what Putin believes. Does he believe the separatists did it, or does he believe Ukraine did it, possibly because they were trying to hit the plane he was in?

But so what if Obama is calling for a ceasefire? He is in Gaza/Israel too. But they're not going to stop because he'd like them to. No one stops unless it's in their best interest, or they're forced to.

And the country where the accident takes place is predominately responsible for the disaster aftermath and investigation, but there, militiamen control the area. They're not even allowing investigators much access, there's no way they're going to lay down their arms for a ceasefire. I just hope it makes the whole separatist movement and their Russian support implode.

The Dutch are in mourning. The prime minister says to show restraint and wait for the facts.

I think everyone pitches in when there is a disaster and offers whatever expertise or help that they can.

How many days do those bodies have to lay in that field? And where have they taken some away to? Let them be taken home. How can they make families just wait while bodies just lay there.

Just like the support we got in Syria when all our allies said no thanks

I'm kind of wondering why we have to wipe everyones noses and butts,

It's time for the European nations to off their duffs and help do something for themselves.

Germany all worried about the economics while rome burns.

The US can't do it all !
