Physically I would have to say they do not work as hard. When I think of my father that worked in a coal mine in the 30's and 40's. He had to work on his hands and knees Picking out coal and shoveling it into a car all by hand with a carbide light fastened on his head to have light to see what he was doing. I must say I have never had to work that hard, however the mental stress of todays workers can be very hard on you too. Although todays workers have many things to make their jobs easier physically they do still work hard. It is just different.

You're exactly right!

Grant, you didn't say "Baby Boomers are the best generation that has ever existed and will ever exist", thus all the disagrees. I agree with the technology being the prime factor, though.
ladybug, it's more complex than the drug/booze thing. Look at the number of middle aged people in Salem that are blithering drunks (because there are a ton), and the drugs are right there with it.
Too much manual labor today.

Sorry, sorry, it wasn't you, it was Mtlhed. I even meant to write that, then saw your post and went brain-dead--fingers went off on their own.
I did not say I was coming to salem.
Did you notice the 3 disagrees Beaumont got last week for saying he was looking forward to coming to Salem this weekend and enjoying weather that was cooler than Houston's?
It doesn't bother me, I think it's legitimately hilarious.

It wasn't me. (I wondered about the one who disagreed with me!)
Don't worry about the Disagrees or Agrees, who cares what others think!

LOL how does my comment garner 3 disagrees when it agrees with the vast majority of the poll voters?

This is one of those loaded questions that could have a dozen answers. It depends on the individual or the job. It could be physical labor or just mental labor. I think everybody (those that want to work)work hard everyday of their lives to achieve success and prosperity. In today's society, we don't work to live in America, we are working to survive in America. We have to get this economy turned around and Nation back to it's richness.
And on that note! Happy Labor Day everyone!

A lot of them don't.
Many of the younger crowd are more interested in drugs, booze and fishing,
A lot can't pass a drug test today.

If we are talking physical labor No.
Some of us, yes. 18 years ago, we thought we'd be retired by now. (We'd been putting money in IRAs since we could, so at that time it was a realistic hope and we'd been saving all those years to do it)
For a lot of us with our own businesses (especially people in retail) we have to juggle a lot more balls and work a lot harder now just to try to not lose too much ground.

As a whole, no. But I would argue that it's more a function of technology than laziness.
