The military is creating a new cyber medal for drone pilots and others. Should it rank above the Purple Heart?

"Really? Just another point of the Obama vengence." Are you for real? Is there anything you won't blame on the President? I personnally feel they should receive recognition for the contributions they make, but it should not be placed above valor awards earned on the battlefield.

As we have said, some with tongue in cheek, awards given should be earned and special. There is a difference between a soldier who is wounded while in active hostile fire and a person who is sitting behind a protected barrier. Both can be extremely important but certainly different in courage and risk taken. I guess we are saying to stop being political with everything!

On his return his unit made many attempts to contact him, he responded to none. When questioned by myself and his sisters, we found that his biggest problem was medals. In formation several troops were awarded Bronze Stars for Valor. The problem,most of the guys awarded those medals never went outside the wire. They worked in the motor pool or some other duty that never put them in harms way. He knew guys and gals involved in hostile fire incidents that didn't get a howdy do. Once he saw the politics he din't see the point.

Absolutely not. It has to do with 'esprit de corps'. My son went to Iraq a while back for the Army. He served as a truck driver on convoy duty,they went outside the wire on a near daily basis,dealing with hostile fire from ambush, IEDs and RPG and mortar fire. When he left he was planning on making a career of the Army.

Make sure everyone gets a medal...there are no losers here, right?

The military issues certain medals in recognition of extraordinary deeds and they should be highly respected, but for everyone of those medals there are probably a dozen or so other medals that represent nothing of significance and they get handed out like candy.
