A little more than 100 years ago we couldn't fly...these days a good snow storm can ground 4,000+ flights in a DAY.

Private sector space exploration will come up with a way to divert these things in the future--probably won't even take that long. I'm sure there would be a way to launch something at it, have some sort of booster attach to it, engage it from the ground and change it's course.

The "what ya gonna do bout it" mentality was probably shared by people around Ford, Edison, Tesla, etc., etc., etc. We (mankind) just created a bionic hand that can FEEL and a way for the brains of mice and monkeys to visualize infrared light, possibly being able to move a cursor with their thoughts on a screen in the near future. You think we can't alter the path of an asteroid someday?

Seriously there is not any humor in any of this. People were seriously hurt and had harm inflicted upon their lives with this disaster. It could have happened right here. Doing something than opposed to doing nothing is negligent in it's own right. Salem has dodged many bullets, because of complacency and denial, one day we might regret this attitude. I pray for the many that suffered.

Yet another reason to arm our teachers. When they aren't busy shooting weirdos in our schools, they could keep an eye on the sky and shoot down these durned comets too.

Maybe Congress could outlaw them.
