They have been in combat for years now anyway.

The historic change will open up hundreds of thousands of jobs in infantry, armor and other previously all-male units from which women have been formally barred under a 1994 Pentagon rule. Ultimately, they could even be allowed to serve in special-operations units, including the Army’s Delta Force and the Navy’s SEALs.

Women may have been in combat positions but without the ability to get the combat credentials needed for promotion

not Socialist, you are showing your old white man problems are still alive. You are a dying breed thank God because we need this country to move forwards not backwards.

Glade to see this, They serve our country with honor.
Wayne LaPierre and Ted Nugent can not say this as some of out gutless wonders we see in the news today.
Women will serve in combat as the worriers they are!!

beaumont, you are absolutely right, this is a great day for women. We deserve the right to fight right alongside the men for our freedoms. Any man who thinks otherwise is one afraid that women will be able to show them we can do the job as well and maybe even better.

Absolutely if you choose to do so .

"Glad to see this, They serve our country with honor." We'll said Beaumont!
Sorry, well said!
I was a platoon sgt. Not socialist is right. As soon as you put a woman in a risky situation the attention is now focused on her. That is because everyone in the room knows who is the weak link. Fitness standards have been lowered already, why should the squad be at risk from soldiers who clearly are not and never will be infantry ready, let alone spec ops. Remember what happened when that convoy was attacked and the woman taken hostage? They claimed their weapons jammed. A woman will run from a fight faster than a man. You can't dream away reality.

Finding additional ways to wage war isn't really moving "forward".

the "men" on here who say this is wrong are the same men who would put us back into the kitchens barefoot and pregnant. If a woman wants to fight in a combat position she has every right to and if another soldier doesn't think she should be there then let him go home. Its time you all grew up, moves out of your caves and joined the modern world.
"the "men" on here who say this is wrong are the same men who would put us back into the kitchens barefoot and pregnant."
That's a lie. I just don't think women should get blown to bits on a battlefield.

I'm surprised the obvious hasn't already been mentioned. Let me make this perfectly clear. If you allow women to openly serve on the front lines or in any other combat role, when captured, THEY WILL BE RAPED. Period. And to Whatever, you are wrong. They have not been in combat roles, at least not blatantly and actively. They have however been allowed to get rather close to it, and in almost every case where a woman was captured, she was assaulted.

If you want this politically correct and socialist experiment to go through, and you're ok with dangling a cookie in front of some scum bag terrorist and saying "Come and get some of this," than I don't know what I can say to change your mind. Remember the soldier girl from West Virginia? The media was told she wasn't raped, but it eventually came out that she was gang raped repeatedly. Who knows how many have occurrd since where the Military just hasn't released the info.
I guess I'm just a so called "Cave Man." I was raised to protect my mother and my sister and to open doors for a lady. When I was on cambatant ships, we were all American Fighting Men, ready to die for our country if need be. We didn't have to worry about our women, as they were safe at home waiting for us on the pier to return. Now we're being told we must fight along side them and watch their blood spill. Incredible!!

WOW, Wow is right and would you look at these bruised MALE EGOS on here. Guys, seriously, grow a brain here. CHOICE. HER CHOICE, she knows the consequences she faces. Just you like you do. She faces rape, just like you face torture if captured. If she is captured, she failed and somebody failed beside her. A man that gets captured it the same thing. It is not a perfect battle front. Men are the brawn, women are the thinking machines...if you can't figure out how to incorporate the two for a success on the battle front, then none of you need to be there.
That young woman that was captured...SURVIVED. She may have been the weakest link in your brains but she SURVIVED.
Now, apologize to the women who choose to support you going into war and the ones that choose to fight the fight beside you.

Watchdog, you're right about it being her choice, if she's given the choice to make. I just would like that she's not given the choice to begin with; for many reasons, only one being the one I posted about previously. It's just not a good idea and will hurt the U.S. ability to fight a war. I was in for 10 years. I saw some of the drawbacks for myself.

To do anything less is dishonorable!

Mtlhead, the problem isn't women wanting to go into the battle front, it's the system that is letting them. I will give the benefit of the doubt in this regard and this regard only. I know women in the military that would chew you up and spit you out. I also know a few women in the military that shouldn't even be there and how they got as far as they have is because of the system.

Do not label that as women and look at them as a whole. That is what the problem is.
By the way, that theory holds true to men.
I notice that nobody included the word GAYS in the military in this debate.
