Merry Christmas

I am tired of the small minority of people who take away the joy enjoyed in celebrating Christmas. The aclu and others believe we need to be politically corect but I say celebrate what ever you want to but as for me and most...we are glad that God's plan happened and I am thankful for it. To my family, friends and everyone in Salem...Merry Christmas! Jesus is the real reason for Christmas.

The “five golden rings” are the first five books of the Old Testament called the Torah which are generally considered the most sacred and important of all the Old Testament. The “four calling birds” are the Four Gospels. The “three French hens” are the Three Persons in God or the three gifts of the Wise Men. The “two turtle doves” represent the two natures in Jesus: human and divine or the two Testaments, Old and New. The “partridge” is the piece de resistance, Jesus himself, and the “pear tree” is the Cross.

“The Twelve Days of Christmas” celebrates the official Christmas season which starts liturgically on Christmas Day and ends twelve days later on the Feast of the Epiphany. “My true love” refers to God, “me” is the individual Catholic. The “twelve lords a leaping” are the twelve basic beliefs of the Catholic Church as outlined in the Apostles Creed. The “eleven pipers piping” are the eleven Apostles who remained faithful after the treachery of Judas. The “ten ladies dancing” are the Ten Commandments. The “nine drummers drumming” are the nine choirs of angels which in those days of class distinction were thought important. The “eight maids a milking” are the Eight Beatitudes. The “seven swans a swimming” are the Seven Sacraments. The “six geese a laying” are the Six Commandments of the Church or the six days of creation.

Yep...and the old 1950 Chevy hit a few clinkers on the way. But, it was a wonderful time and Christmas was so special. I really hope and pray we can get back to that wonderful time of joy and peace and celebrating Jesus' birth.

Merry Christmas

I remember the snowy streets and cold as my Dad took me to town to get tangerines for a Christmas treat and listen to him sing Silver Bells...we were not wealthy but rich with love and that's what Christmas should be all about...God's love!

Now that your tummys are full and cookies are being baked and the "global warming grinch" has made it cold, icy, and snowy...are you counting the days until Christmas. Remember those who cannot be home because they are serving to keep the world a safer place. And, don't forget those who are suffering due to a lousy economy. Please pray for God's protection and much love during theses times. Remember, Jesus is the reason for Christmas.

May you not only enjoy a good meal and time with your family but a time of reflection.

I thank God for my family, friends and most especially for Jesus.

I love Christmas, it is my favorite holiday. I really enjoy giving gifts. I always try to setup a Christmas tree and a train set to go around it if I have time. Last Christmas was pretty much ruined when my good friend Bill Pearce died on Christmas eve. It was a very sad day for me. I do not share the belief that Jesus was in any way divine, but I think there is enough proof to believe that he might have existed. I have never held a belief in any kind of supreme being. As an Amateur Astronomer I can tell you that our Solar System is not located anywhere near to the central point of our Galaxy. In fact our Sun sits on what is known as the Orion spur in between the Sagittarius and Perseus Spiral Arms of the Milky Way Galaxy. There is nothing really unique about it, except of course it is the Solar system we call home. The idea that any kind of supreme being would take an interest in it is really laughable. Still it is my favorite time of the year. I do love Christmas.

As we get close to the Thanksgiving holiday, we see stores decked in Christmas decore. Do you think we might remember, if only for awhile, that we celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas.

The gifts are wonderful, the decorations are beautiful and the songs make us happy but no match to our Savior.
