Ohio man in scam case passes lie detector test

AP
POSTED: November 7, 2009
DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) — Prosecutors in Ohio are asking a court to drop charges against a man accused of participating in a cancer scam.

Authorities in Delaware County said Friday that Phylip Chen of Columbus passed a lie detector test.

Chen had been accused of working with his wife to convince friends and family that he had cancer so the couple could collect $800,000 in contributions. Wife Melanie Chen pleaded guilty and was sentenced in October to eight years in prison and ordered to pay restitution to 13 victims.

Authorities say the wife solicited money from July 2005 to August 2008.
