Salem First Friends Church plans group for children
SALEM - Salem First Friends Church is announcing a new Wednesday evening program for children. Registration for the new group, Friends For Christ, begins at 6 p.m. today, followed by the new Veggie Tales movie, "Celery Night Fever." Children in grades kindergarten to sixth are welcome to sign-up for the new group which will include Bible time, crafts, games, and snacks. Salem Athletic Hall of Fame's induction dinner set Sept. 11
SALEM - The Salem High School Athletic Hall of Fame's induction dinner and ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Salem Community Center (SCC). Those selected for the Class of 2014 are Lloyd Yoder '21, Chris Roessler '23, Lowell "Rib" Allen '28, Glenn Whinnery '30, Bob Pager '48, Walter Ehrhart '49, Dan Krichbaum '60, Brian Martin '90, Valerie Scott Stamberskey '94 and Lauren Teal '04.
Reservations may be made at the SCC or via phone at 330-332-5885. SCC accepts cash, Visa, Discover, MasterCard and checks (payable to the SCC). Cost is $25 per person and includes dinner and beverage provided by the Catered Affair. Seating is limited, and tickets are available on a first come-first serve basis. Reservations will be accepted through Sept. 7, or until sold out. Event tickets are transferable, but non-refundable.
Sept. 15 deadline to order Reilly Stadium paver this year
SALEM - Sept. 15 is the last day, for this year, to order a Reilly Stadium paver for the Dedication Park at Reilly Stadium. Salem Memorial Building schedules 3 bus trips
SALEM - The Salem Memorial Building has three bus trips scheduled over the next four months. If you like surprises, sign up for the Mystery Trip on Sept. 20. Cost is $20. On Oct. 11, ride the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad and enjoy the fall scenery. Bus and train ticket is $30. On Dec. 20, enjoy a Christmas program at Stan Hywett Hall and Gardens. Salem-Lisbon KOA Fall
Festival planned for Sept. 13
SALEM - The Salem-Lisbon KOA Fall Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at 33807 Winona Road, Salem.

Salem 2016 to collect used shoes at home football games
SALEM The Salem High School Class of 2016 will collect shoes at all home football games starting Sept. 12. Gently used shoes will be collected in the truck by the ticket booth at Reilly Stadium. Approximately 10,000 pairs of shoes have been collected to date. A goal of 15,000 pairs has been set.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church plans outdoor movie night
NORTH GEORGETOWN - Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Georgetown Road will host its annual outdoor movie night on Saturday. The event will be preceded by an ice cream social and gadget guessing game beginning at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Attendees are to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and bug spray. Free popcorn will be available during the movie which begins at dusk.
This year's feature is "What I Did For Love" starring Jeremy London (Gods and Generals), Dorie Barton, Sally Struthers, and James Gammon (Cold Mountain).
Salem Band Boosters plan
bus trip to New York City
SALEM - The Salem High School Boosters and Choral Director Attila Samu are announcing the third annual bus trip to New York City on Dec . 13. This exciting trip is open to the public, young and old. The 54-seat deluxe charter bus will depart from the Salem High School parking lot at 11 p.m. Dec. 12. Arrival will be approximately 7 a.m. at the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Passengers will then have the entire day to enjoy the city at their own pace. Sites include Fifth Avenue featuring the FAO Schwartz Toy Store, Saks and Tiffany's, Times Square, Toys R Us, Disney Store and M&M World, the 9/11 Memorial, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Macy's, etc.
The bus will pick up all passengers at 9 p.m. with a return to Salem at approximately 6 a.m. Cost is $90 per person. Payment is due at the time of reservation to secure your seat on the bus. Order forms may be picked up at either the Salem High School office (330-332-8905) or Salem Computer Center on Second St. (330-332-2201). Tour protection is available for an additional $10. Free patriotic daubers
offered at Wednesday bingo
SALEM In honor of Labor Day, free patriotic daubers will be given to bingo players during the Wednesday Night Bingo today at the Saxon Club, 1980 Newgarden Road. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Early bird games start at 6:30 p.m.
Also planned on Sunday, Sept. 7, is Super Sub Sunday at 5 p.m. Doors open at 3 p.m. Sub sandwiches will be sold at $3 each. Also available are snacks and beverages for $1 each.
