EAST PALESTINE- Robert Allen (Soupy) Campbell, 88, of Beaver Falls, Pa., died Sunday morning at Franciscan Manor assisted living in Beaver Falls after an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 9, 1925 in Beaver Falls, a son of the late Harry and Velma (Landis) Campbell. Robert was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. During his time at sea he served on the USS Pilotfish 386 and witnessed the signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945.
Soupy retired in 1985 as a field planner engineer with Duquesne Light. He was a member of the College Hill Methodist Church in Beaver Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen Duffy Campbell, whom he married on July 16, 1985; a son, Dale (Sue) Campbell of West Chester, Pa.; a daughter, Cindy (Randy) Nevels of Houston, Texas; two step-sons, Richard Allan (Cindy) Duffy of Marengo, Ohio, and Ronald E. (Kimberly) Duffy of East Palestine; five grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth (Marilyn) Campbell of Grafton, Wisc. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the College Hill Methodist Church in Beaver Falls with the Rev. Larry Reitz officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Full military honors will be provided by the Highlands VFW Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester.
