COLUMBIANA DeWayne Clark McCarty, 80, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, Aug. 30, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman with his family at his side.
DeWayne was born on July 10, 1934 in Salem, a son of Howard Clark and Vera Marie (Sommers) McCarty. Mr. McCarty was raised in the area and graduated from Columbiana High School in 1953, and in 1955 he graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago.
His career included employment at Westinghouse Electric Corp., Baltimore, MD; Burroughs Corp., Vandenberg Air Force Base, FL.; and San Salvador Island Missile Range. He retired in 1988 after 28 years with IBM.
He was a member of the Columbiana County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and the Historical Society of Columbiana and Fairfield Township. He has authored several genealogy books entitled "Columbiana Ledger News Paper Abstracts from the Village Columbiana Ohio."
DeWayne leaves to cherish his precious memory a large extended family, including many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lelia Evelyn Horn, Barbara Jean Gaither and Kathryn Elaine Zembower; and a half-brother, John Eugene McCarty, who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana, with Minister Jonathan Salmen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana and also one hour prior to the services.
