COLUMBIANA - Robert Paul McMurray, 81, died Sunday at his home in Columbiana.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1933 in New Springfield, a son of the late William Harry and Bessie Helen (Gorrell) McMurray.
From 1955 to 1957, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed for the most part in Germany. Afterward, he served in the Reserves until 1961. He worked as a supervisor for the East Ohio Gas Company of Youngstown for 40 years, following in the footsteps of his father, who had worked for the company as well.
On June 18th, 1960 he married the love of his life, the former Rebecca Jane Reese whom he met while donating blood for the American Red Cross, where Rebecca was serving refreshments.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Rebecca Jane (Reese) McMurray, and sons, Robert Paul McMurray II of Cleveland and Rodney Keith McMurray of Columbiana; Robert also leaves behind two grandsons, Dylan Robert McMurray and Cody James Dole and their mother, Julie McMurray Frederick. Survivors also include Joe (Beverly) McMurray of Thomasville, Ga., Lois June (Leon) Casity of North Lima, James Edward (Pat) McMurray of Boardman, and Elizabeth Jean (Gary) Leonard of Columbiana.
He served on the Columbiana Board of Education for 13 years and was a volunteer fireman for the city of Columbiana.
Visitation will be at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, 28 North Main Street, Columbiana, Ohio 44408, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Allen Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 210 South Main Street, Columbiana, Ohio 44408 with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial will immediately follow at the Columbiana Cemetery where the American Legion Honor Guard will accord military honors.
