Salem Joseph E. VanPelt, 72 of Salem, died Friday at the Cleveland Clinic following a brief illness.
He was born at Salem on May 15, 1942 to the late Charles and Iva Witmer VanPelt and married Louella Hurst on June 6, 1964.
He was a lifelong area farmer. For the past number of years he raised and sold vegetables at the VanPelt Farm Market. He was a faithful member of the Salem Mennonite Church where he served as deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Louella; a daughter Katrina VanPelt; sons, Linford (Luella) VanPelt of New Waterford, Curtis (Barbara) VanPelt of Salem, Cletus (Margaret) VanPelt of Columbiana, Daniel (Lisa) VanPelt of Leetonia, Arlin (Beulah) VanPelt of Salem, and Lamar (Rhoda) Van Pelt of Danville PA; brothers, Roy VanPelt of Mt. Hope, OH, David VanPelt of Columbiana, Ivan VanPelt of Columbiana; sisters, Loretta (Marvin) Good of Dalton, OH and Emma Ruth Walker of Rittman; and 39 grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at the Salem Mennonite Church, 40725 Lodge Road, Leetonia, from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
