Table vendors needed for
Family Fall Fun Day in Salem
SALEM - Table vendors from organizations, churches and businesses are needed for the Family Fall Fun Day to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13 in downtown Salem.
Applications may be obtained by calling the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce at 330-337-3473 or by downloading an application at salemohiochamber.org.
Location sites for set-up will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. The Salem firefighters will provide hayrides. A petting zoo and pony rides will be available and other children's games and activities will be provided by the Eyes for Olivia group. Magician Jason Alan will provide street magic beginning at 11 a.m. and the Humane Society of Columbiana County will host a pet parade on Lundy Avenue beginning at 1 p.m. The Salem Preservation Society will conduct a scavenger hunt downtown during the day's event. Guilford Lake Civic Association
will meet Aug. 28 at Ruritan Hall
LAKE - The Guilford Lake Civic Association will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on Route 172. The guest speaker will be Julia Pisansky, development associate of Beatitude House.
The association's annual lighted boat parade is slated Aug. 30 at the beach. Boats may be decorated with any type of lighting and should line up at the public swim beach on Teegarden Road at 8 p.m.
The public is welcome to watch the parade, enjoy the bonfire, and bring their own chairs, beverages, hot dogs, buns and snacks for their family and friends. Boats may pull in on the beach after the parade to enjoy the bon fire. For more information call Sally Fowler, 330-398-2840.
Salem Community Foundation
will be hosting the Banquet
SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The meal will be sponsored by the Salem Community Foundation.
The menu offers meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, applesauce, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and ice cream sundaes.

Sterling House hosting annual
classic car show on Sept. 7
SALEM - Sterling House Assisted Living, 1916 S. Lincoln Ave., will host its third annual classic car show to kick off "National Assisted Living Week" on Grandparent's Day, from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 7.
Guests, staff and residents will vote on "Select Car of the Decades" to award a total of three trophies. Dash plaques will be given to 40 cars.

Entry-level technicians class
licenses planned Sept, 10
YOUNGSTOWN - Entry-level technicians class licenses, sponsored by the Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club, will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 15, at ITT Tech, 1030 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

South Range Schools, MCESC
offering preschool program
BEAVER TOWNSHIP - The South Range Local Schools, in conjunction with the Mahoning County Educational Service Center, is offering a preschool program for the 2014-15 school year in the elementary school building.
The preschool teacher will have the opportunity to work hand in hand with kindergarten teachers in order to better prepare the students for their elementary career.
The preschool program will follow the South Range School calendar and hold classes on Monday through Thursday where children will attend either a morning or afternoon session.

ODOT scheduled bridge
work in?Madison Township
NEW PHILADELPHIA - Weather permitting, U.S. Route 30 eastbound will be reduced to one lane next Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, while concrete is placed on the new state Route 267 bridge over the highway in Madison Township, Columbiana County.
The eastbound travel lane (right lane) will be closed during this work. The westbound lanes of U.S. 30 will not be affected.
Just over 100 yards of concrete will be poured with this work. ODOT's contractor for this $1.3 million project is DOT Construction Corp., from Canfield.
The state Route 267 bridge has been reduced to one, 12-foot lane with temporary traffic signals since mid-June. The completion date for this entire project is November 2014.
Alan Freed exhibit currently
on display at Historical Society
SALEM - While the Alan Freed family decided to retain his ashes in Cleveland, the Salem Historical Society has a featured exhibit on Freed's life, including his years living in Salem from fifth grade through his graduation from Salem High School in 1940.
The exhibit is displayed in the Arts and Entertainment Hall of the museum and can be viewed on Sunday afternoons 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Other featured entertainment displays seen at the museum include Ponderosa Park with its rich musical programs of nationally known performers and Salem 's Quaker City Band with its origin in 1896.
Admission to the museum is at 208 South Broadway Avenue.

SALEM-A public breakfast buffet will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Building, 788 E. State St.
Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2. The menu offers pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea.
The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator. Proceeds will be directed to the Salem Masonic Building Fund.

LEETONIA - Leetonia Ruritans will hold a Taste of Pizza 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Leetonia School Campus cafeteria before the Leetonia/Lisbon football game.

T-shirt packages available for
upcoming DAHS season
LISBON - The Lisbon Athletic Department and Pep Club are selling T-shirt packets in five different designs for the five home football games this season. The shirt packets are $30 for youth sizes through adult extra large. All Lisbon students who purchase the shirt packages will receive a pass. With this pass they can pay $1 for each Lisbon fall athletic event they attend. Forms are in the high school office.
South Range presenting 'Meet
the Team Night' on Friday
BEAVER TOWNSHIP - South Range Local School District will start the new school year with a special event for the community in its first "Meet the Team Night" on Friday. Staff members, students and community members are invited to attend the free event that begins with the varsity football team scrimmaging Beaver Local at 6 p.m. at North Lima Stadium.
Following the scrimmage at 8:30 p.m., fall sports athletes in grades seven through 12 will be introduced, along with coaches and assistants. All high school marching band members will also be recognized. Fireworks follow.
This event was created by upcoming senior, Kendall Syms, as part of her senior project. Syms chose to create a South Range Spirit Club for her project to help get students more involved in school events and to show support for their school.
'Steppin' Out for Hospice 5K
Run/Walk' scheduled Saturday
ALLIANCE - Alliance Visiting Nurse and Hospice will host its annual "Steppin' Out for Hospice 5K Run/Walk," one of two annual fundraisers, on Saturday.
All proceeds from the event go toward Alliance Visiting Nurse and Hospice's mission of helping families.
Registration for the 3.1 miles race is $20 in advance or $25 the day of the event. The race will start in front of Alliance Community Hospital at 7:45 p.m. and the kids 10 and under 1K starts at 7 p.m.
All children in the 1K will receive a participation medal. For the 5K there will be awards for runners and walkers in each age division.
Register at the hospital between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday. There will also be a spaghetti dinner benefiting Hospice in the hospital cafe from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m. Friday. For more information call the foundation office at 330-596-7516.
