SALEM - Monnet Wilma Dickerson Young, 94, of Courtyard at Lexington, formerly a long time resident of Damascus, Ohio, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug, 17, 2014, at the Courtyard at Lexington.
She was born April 18, 1920, in Jackson County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Edward W. Dickerson and Esther E. (Ervin) Dickerson.
Before her marriage, Monnet was involved in song evangelism for 11 years. The rest of her life, she was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and Sunday school teacher.
Monnet was a member of the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church. She loved to write encouraging letters and poems to family and friends about God and heaven.
Her husband of 55 years, Paul A. Young, whom she married June 24, 1955, preceded her in death Sept. 21, 2010. Six brothers, Harry, Max, Edward, Leonard, Orson, and Leo and four sisters, Birtha, Wanda, Sylvia, and Birdie, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Paul D. (Carol) Young of Leetonia and Timothy (Darlene) Young of Salem; a sister, Edna Hostetler; four grandchildren, Jennifer Alvim, Hansel, Kester, and Dylan Young; and three great-grandchildren, Carlin, Alendria, and Ryland Young.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church on Newgarden Avenue with the Rev. Stanley Grabill and Rev. John Dye officiating.
Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be at the Damascus Cemetery.
