SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Salem News

- Deputies responded to state Route 172 Saturday to assist a state patrol trooper who had been receiving calls from a man complaining about a Jeep with no lights or license plates driving up and down the road with several four-wheelers. The trooper had checked the Jeep and found its engine to be cold to the touch. Deputies were aware of problems between the caller and the Jeep's owner, including the fact that there is a protection order in place. The prosecutor was contacted to determine if the false calls would constitute a violation of the protection order, but the prosecutor advised not to file charges.
