LEETONIA- The school board Friday morning approved a bid to resurface the main entrance at the K-12 campus.
The board approved a bid of $29,500 from R.T. Vernal Paving & Excavating Inc. to resurface the drive from Walnut Street to the front of the building. Board members Larry Duko, Richard Hendricks and Michael Henderson were present and all voted yes.
Schools Superintendent Rob Mehno said that the project will begin as soon as possible in order to complete before the start of school on Aug. 25, but that there are no guarantees that it will be completed. If resurfacing is still ongoing at the start of school, traffic will be rerouted until it is complete, Mehno said.
The board tabled the issue in June when presented with a $22,950 contract with Buckeye Paving & Concrete, opting to develop specifications and seek bids to clarify the project. Bids were opened last week.
The main entrance was not included with the parking lot resurfacing last year funded by the Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) since the deterioration of the entrance was found to be natural wear and tear and not due to faulty construction like the parking lot, Mehno noted.
The project will not include additional parking spaces in front of the campus for which board President Kurt Jennings asked the cost be sought. Mehno said that the additional spaces were not feasible at this time, but indicated handicap parking may be expanded in the current parking spaces.
