COLUMBIANA Leonard S. Pritchard, M.D., (Fellow of the American College of Family Practice), died Sunday at his home.
Born Dec. 27, 1924, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Hazel S. and Leonard Charles Pritchard.
Dr. Pritchard graduated from Langley High School, working briefly as an engineering draftsman. When World War II broke out, he joined the service and spent the next three years in the Air Force, serving in the China, Burma, India Theater, specifically Calcutta, Kunming, Hankow, Shanghi, and Canton (Quanzhu).
He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and its School of Medicine. After an internship at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh he did a "locum tenens" in Mercer, Pa. Dr. Pritchard established his own practice in Columbiana in 1954, where he remained for the next 35 years as a board certified family physician. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne S. Pritchard; a daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Perkins and her husband Dave of Columbiana; a son, Carl and his wife Nancy of Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 28 E. Park Ave., with Dr. Bob McCreight officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arrangements were handled by the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana.
