'Cash it, or trash it' set Saturday
COLUMBIANA - The Historical Society of Columbiana-Fairfield Township is hosting "Cash it, or trash it" from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Log House Museum. School supply giveaway planned
LEETONIA - The Leetonia First United Methodist Church, 50 Lisbon St., will once again have a school supply giveaway from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 21 at the church. The giveaway is open to children attending the Leetonia School District who must to be accompanied by an adult and bring a current report card as proof of attendance. Joshua Dixon class list postings
COLUMBIANA - Class lists for Joshua Dixon Elementary School will be posted on Aug. 20. New student orientation for students in grades one to four will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 in the school library.
Kindergarten orientation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. or noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 25. During the orientation parents must schedule their child's Kindergarten Readiness Assessment test which will be held Aug. 26-28 by appointment.
The first day of school for grades one to four is Aug. 25. The first day of school for kindergarten and preschool is Sept. 2.
Students on the free/reduced lunch program who qualified last year will be accepted this year until new applications are processed. Supply lists can be found at columbiana.kl2.oh.us/Joshua Dixon/ and also posted on school's front door.

Family Fall Fun Day set in Salem
SALEM - Family Fall Fun Day will be held in McCulloch Park, the Grand Theater lot and nearby sidewalks on Sept. 13. Clubs, organizations, churches and businesses are asked to participate by setting up tables and small tents. Locations will be assigned and given out on a first come first serve basis. Applications will be mailed out the week of Aug. 11 to former participants. Family Fest rescheduled Aug. 23
LISBON - The Alcohol Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT) Coalition's Crestview-Columbiana Leadership Team has rescheduled Family Fest to 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 23 at Firestone Park in Columbiana. Activities will include games, music, a bounce house, bungee run, cannonball blaster, rock wall, face painting, food, cornhole tournament and animal show. Guests can enter a raffle for bicycles and other prizes, with the winner chosen at 8 p.m. Due to rescheduling of family fest, there will not be fireworks this year. Leetonia class schedules ready
LEETONIA - Class schedules for Leetonia High School students may be picked up in the high school office on Aug. 18. Juniors and seniors may pick up their schedules from 8 a.m. to noon and sophomores from noon to 2 p.m. Freshmen schedules will be passed out at freshman orientation at 10 a.m. Aug. 19.
Leetonia Middle School student schedules, grades six to eight, may be picked up from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 19. Fifth-grade schedules will be distributed during orientation at 9 a.m. Aug. 19.
Leetonia clothing giveaway set
LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library, 181 Walnut St., will host a community clothing giveaway from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Clothing for men, women and children will be available from which the public can choose. Patrons must bring their own bags or boxes. This is strictly a one-day event.
Crochet projects planned
LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library will host a series of crochet projects the next three months. Events include making a cover with cotton yarn for a "Swiffer" duster Thursday, learning how to make versatile granny squares on Monday, Sept. 15, and crochet ear warmers on Monday, Oct. 20. All three events begin at 5 p.m. There is no cost for the projects, but participants should bring some crochet hooks and yarn. Registration is required by calling 330-427-6635.
United plans Hartville bus trips
HANOVERTON- The United Local Community Education Department is sponsoring bus trips to the Hartville Marketplace and Flea Market in Hartville on Saturday, Aug. 23, and to The Mall at Robinson and Robinson Town Centre in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Aug. 30. The bus will leave United High School at 7:45 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. each trip.
The cost of each trip is $10 per person. Payment is due at the time of registration. Make checks payable to United Locals Schools and mail to Community Education, United Local Schools, 8143 state Route 9, Hanoverton OH 44423.
