Back to school carnival planned Aug. 23
SALEM - A back to school carnival will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Southeast Friends Church, 1300 Franklin Ave. The event offers games and refreshments and also a school supply giveaway (until supplies run out.)
Drive-thru chicken dinner set in North Lima
NORTH LIMA - Calvary United Methodist Church at 12062 South Ave. will hold its monthly drive-thru chicken dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 14. The meal includes a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, vegetable and a brownie. Cost is $6 per dinner. Reservations may be made by calling the church at 330-549-2588.
Banquet in Salem to feature rigatoni
SALEM - Copeland Oaks is the sponsor of the next Banquet in Salem to be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The menu offers salad, rigatoni with meatballs and marinara sauce, green beans, vegetable tray, assorted cakes and fresh fruit.

Chicken barbecue fund raiser planned
SALEM - The Salem First Friends Church will host its 12th annual Friends Disaster Service chicken barbecue fund raiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at the church, 1028 Jennings Ave. This year's barbecue, held indoors, will be dedicated to the late Millie Gibson, who, along with her husband Roy, was a long-time supporter of the event and disaster service and a member of the church. Cost for the chicken dinner is $10. A children's hot dog meal is available for $4.
Live entertainment and a silent auction is planned. All funds raised will help Friends Disaster Service as members continue to travel to serve those devastated by various disasters. Advance tickets are recommended and may be purchased at the church office. For more information call 330-332-0001.
St. Jacob's to hold services in pavilion
LISBON - St. Jacob's United Church of Christ is holding Sunday worship services at 10:30 a.m. during August in the pavilion behind the church on St. Jacob's-Logtown Road. Everyone is welcome and asked to bring a lawn chair.
