Hot dog, bake sale will benefit Way Station
SALEM - The Simply DeVine Gala Committee is raising funds for the Way Station in Columbiana by hosting a hot dog and bake sale from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Salem Giant Eagle.
Road Work will perform at Memorial Park
SALEM - The musical group Road Work will entertain with the best of classic country music during the Summer Concert Series at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Orashan Memorial Civic Center band shell at Waterworth Memorial Park.
The group has been playing country music, oldies and classic rock for over 20 years and includes David Allen, lead vocals; Bucky Stokes, steel guitar; Danny Allen, vocals, lead and rhythm guitar; Tommy Deem, drums; Mike Scott, lead guitar; and Ruth Ledbetter, vocals, bass guitar. Attendees are to bring lawn chairs.
Breakfast planned at American Legion
SEBRING - A benefit breakfast will be held 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Sebring American Legion on California Avenue. Proceeds will be directed to the Sebring Harvest Fest on Oct. 3-5.
Cost for the all-you-can-eat meal is $7 which includes coffee and juice. A poker run to benefit the harvest fest also kicks off on Sunday.
The first bike leaves the legion at 11 a.m. and the last comes in at 5 p.m. This event includes door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Cost is $25 per motorcycle and includes a steak dinner.
United Class of 1974's reunion is Aug. 5
HANOVERTON - United Local High School Class of 1974 will hold its final organizational meeting for the 40th-year class reunion at 6 p.m. Aug. 5 at the home of Pam Dolence Kiko, 4245 McCann Road.

Free dinner will be served during bingo
SALEM - A free German dinner will be served to bingo players during the Wednesday Night Bingo on Aug. 6 at the Salem Saxon Club, 1980 state Route 9. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.
Also scheduled at the club is Aug. 13, $1 per slice pizza night; Aug. 20, mix-em up night; and Aug. 27, soupy hot dog days of summer ($1 for Flo's homemade soup and a hot dog.)
A special bingo on Sunday, Aug. 17, will feature "Super Sub Sunday" at 5 p.m. Doors that day open at 3 p.m. All proceeds from bingo benefit the Salem Saxon Club Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships for area youth. For more information call Annette Jermolenko at 234-564-5964.
Nurse assistant training program offered
YOUNGSTOWN - The American Red Cross is offering a nurse assistant training orientation at 10 a.m. Aug. 6 at the American Red Cross, 3530 Belmont Ave., Suite 7.
Participants will learn nursing skills such as blood pressure, pulse and respiration during this free orientation session.
Salem 1969 reunion activities planned
SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1969's 45th-year pre-reunion get together begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the home of Ginny Edling Eudy, 1177 N. Lincoln Ave.
The 45th-year class reunion starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Italian Club on Penn Avenue. Classmates are also invited to the 45th post-reunion get together at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Eudy home.
First Christian Church sponsoring Banquet
SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The meal will be sponsored by the First Christian Church of Salem. The menu offers pulled pork sandwiches, applesauce, salad, vegetable tray, fruit, and ice cream sundaes.

Mr. Zap to close summer reading program
SALEM - The Salem Public Library will close its summer reading program with Mr. Zap's Fizz, Boom, Read! Science at 11 a.m. Aug. 7 in the gymnasium at St. Paul School, 925 E. State St. A scientific magician, Mr. Zap, will work his magic with "Fizz, Boom, Read" in an educational and really fun performance.

Salem Library plans Crazy Creations
SALEM - Children entering fourth to sixth grades are invited to the Salem Public Library's Crazy Creations program at 4 p.m. Aug. 5 in room 23 at the Memorial Building.

Hanoverton Ghost Walks scheduled
HANOVERTON - Hanoverton Ghost Walks, presented by History Haunts and Legend Tours, begin at 8:15 p.m. Aug. 2, 9, 16, 22 and 30. Ghostly tales of this old canal town will be told followed by a trip to the cemetery.
This group is not affiliated with the Peddler Days Ghost Walk held in July.
Participants are encouraged to bring a camera and meet at the back of the Spread Eagle Tavern.
