SALEM - Madge E. Kuyper, 91, formerly of Lisbon, died at 3:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Sterling House in Salem with her family by her side.
She was born Nov. 24, 1922 in Chester, W. Va., daughter of the late George Milton and Catherine (VanVlack) Woodburn.
Madge last worked at the Wright Tile Company in Lisbon as a floor lady. She had also worked in the shipping department of Wright Industries, which later became the Wright Tile Company. During WWII, they manufactured gun parts for the military. Madge was the co-owner of Herms Auto Sales with her husband Herman.
Madge was a member of the Highland Christian Church, a 1940 graduate of Lisbon High School and a 1947 graduate of the Ohio Valley Business School.
Survivors include her husband, Herman Kuyper, whom she married Aug. 31, 1947; a son, Larry H. (Brenda) Kuyper of Elkton, Md.; daughter-in-law, Linda Kuyper of Alliance; sister-in-law, Ruth Woodburn of Elkton, Ohio; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John B. Kuyper in 2006; a sister, Beryle Woodburn Buchheit; and brothers, Benson, Joseph and John Woodburn.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. John Reed officiating. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday prior to the services. Burial will be at Woodsdale Cemetery.
