Garage sale planned to aid Camp Grief
SALEM - A charity garage sale to benefit Camp Good Grief in Rogers, a children's grief camp, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, in memory of Glenn Peison and Olivia Thompson. The public is invited to the sale at the home of Dena Peison, 1097 Jones Drive.
Monetary donations to Camp Good Grief, will be accepted by phone at 330-337-0940 or in person the days of the sale.
Salem Radio Association field day set
SALEM - The Salem Area Amateur Radio Association will host its annual field day on Saturday at 1132 Jennings Ave. Set-up begins at 10 a.m. and operating at 2 p.m. A potluck picnic follows at 6 p.m. Guests are welcome to attend.
Pistol training offered in West Middlesex
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. - The Mercer County Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) will teach a basic pistol training and conceal carry course on Saturday and Sunday at Hidden Valley Sportsmen's Club in West Middlesex, Pa. The deadline for registration is June 25.
The course will follow National Rifle Association basic pistol training guidelines. A certificate will be given to individuals who complete the course. The Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana, Ashtabula and Portage County (Ohio) sheriff's offices will accept the certification with CCW applications for Ohio residents living in those counties since the course meets the Ohio concealed carry requirements. All proceeds benefit the Mercer County CIRT.
Training will cover: pistol and ammunition knowledge, safe gun handling, shooting fundamentals, marksmanship and live fire drills.
About Mercer County CIRT: Established in 2005, the Mercer County Critical Incident Response Team is a multi-jurisdictional organization comprised of officers from eight police agencies. These officers receive training above the normal police training to respond to high risk warrants, terrorist events, barricaded subjects, hostage rescue, hazardous material incidents, dignitary protection and large scale disasters.
Davis family reunion planned Saturday
EAST PALESTINE - The 36th annual John and Ida Davis family reunion begins with family photos at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Community Center at East Palestine Park. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. preceded by a brief family meeting. The Russell Davis family comprises the table committee. The children's goody bag committee is the William Davis family. Each family to bring a gift basket for the auction, and also buns, beverage, casserole and table service. Chicken and ham will be provided.
Wine festival scheduled in Columbiana
COLUMBIANA - Dan Rivers from radio 570WKBN will broadcast live on Saturday from Columbiana during the city's second annual wine festival on the grounds of American Legion Post 290 on state Route 14.
Rivers' talk show from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will also feature Cornell Bogdan, host of WNCD 93.3 The Wolf's "Tangled Up in Blues" radio show. The on-site broadcast is made possible in cooperation with Chalet Premier, Premium Wines, Spirits and Specialty Beers of North Lima, Columbiana Diner and Wellman's Florist and Gift Shop.
The wine festival is sponsored by the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce to raise funds to develop future events and festivals. Admission is $25 at the door and includes 10 wine-tasting tickets from six Ohio wineries, free entertainment, food vendors, and artisans offering unique wine-themed items.

Strawberry festival set at Salem Masons
SALEM - Amaranth is hosting a strawberry festival on July 19 at the Salem Masonic Temple, 788 E. State St. The public is invited from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children and free for under 3. The building is equipped with a handicap accessible elevator.
Meals on Wheels plans Lake Erie cruise
COLUMBIANA - Meals on Wheels is hosting a wine tasting dinner cruise on Oct. 4. Cost is $100 per person which includes a bus ride to Lake Erie Island Cruises, a four-course dinner, wine tasting, and wine glass. For more information call 330-482-0366.
Project Appleseed shooting course returns
SALEM - Project Appleseed returns to the Salem Hunting Club on Saturday and Sunday. The program teaches rifle marksmanship skills while embracing the history and heritage of winning the Revolutionary War. Appleseed is designed to take participants from being a simple rifle owner to being a true rifleman. Young people with sufficient maturity are welcome to the Appleseed line with parental permission. Designed as a two day program, participants may still choose to attend either Saturday or just Sunday.
Costs for the weekend is under 18 years old, $20, active military, reserve and guard, peace officers, disabled, (each require ID), re-enactors in period dress, and elected officials (with proof), free; adults over 18, $60.
