Banquet in Salem to feature pulled pork
SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. Next week's sponsor is Salem Regional Medical Center. The menu offers pulled pork, baked potato, corn, cole slaw, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and dessert.

Beaver Local 1964 reunion planned
LISBON - The Beaver Local High School Class of 1964 will celebrate its 50th-year reunion the weekend of July 25-27. Events will include a school tour and meet and greet on Friday, golf and dinner on Saturday and a Sunday brunch.

Free grief camp offered at Camp Frederick
ROGERS - Good Grief at Camp Frederick is a free camp for youth ages 8-15 who have experienced a loss. The program seeks to integrate therapeutic activities with the fun and challenges of the camping experience. They will learn that grief is normal as are their feelings, they are not alone in their grief experience and that it is okay to have fun while grieving and they are forever connected to their loved one.

Flag retirement ceremony set in Damascus
DAMASCUS - The Damascus Ruritan Club will hold its annual flag retirement ceremony at 2 p.m. on Flag Day, June 14, at the Damascus Community Center on the Damascus-Georgetown Road.
The public is invited to bring their unserviceable flags and observe the ceremony, lasting nearly an hour. Drop off point for the flags also will be the Damascus Post Office prior to June 14.
Students from West Branch High School will sing the national anthem and play taps. The Damascus Volunteer Fire and Rescue we be on hand to provide safety.
The Ruritans will sell 3x5-foot nylon flags made in America for $16.
Wednesday deadline for scholarship
SALEM - The deadline is Wednesday for the Salem Community Foundation Scholarship. Current college students are reminded they can download the Salem Community Foundation scholarship application via the scholarship link on the foundation's website at salemcommunityfoundation.org.
Consideration will be given to students on the basis of class level (senior, junior and sophomore) and financial need. Applicants must be a resident of Salem city or Perry Township. All applications must be received in the Salem Community Foundation's office by June 11 to be considered for an award.
Ministerial Scholarship deadline extended
SALEM - The Salem Community Foundation Ministerial Scholarship is extended to June 11 individuals who wish to enter the fields of the ministry, Christian education, youth ministry, or a closely related field. The Ministerial Scholarship is valid at undergraduate and graduate schools as well as Bible Colleges. Applicants must submit indication of financial need, academic performance, reference letters, and a personal statement. The Ministerial Scholarship does not discriminate on the basis of religious denomination, age, sex, gender, or geography.
The fund provides scholarship aid to assist persons who will spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Ministerial Scholarship application and guidelines are available on the foundation's website at salemcommunityfoundation.org and also by calling the foundation office weekday mornings at 330-332-4021. Only completed applications will be considered by the foundation's scholarship committee.
Arts and Crafts in the Park planned
SALEM - Arts and Crafts in the Park will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 28 at Centennial Park. This year's event includes raffles, 50/50 drawings and a free children's craft program. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bass fishing tournament set June 14
SALEM - A bass fishing tournament is slated from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 14 at Salem City Lake. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third-place. The entry fee is $20 in advance and $25 on tournament day. Checks may be made payable to the Salem Memorial Building and mailed or dropped off to the Memorial Building, 785 E. Healthy Steps 5K Run/Walk planned
SALEM -Salem Regional Medical Center's (SRMC) Charitable Foundation and Volunteer Program, in partnership with the Salem Community Center, are sponsoring the fourth annual Healthy Steps 5K Run/Walk on June 28. Proceeds from the event will benefit SRMC's Charitable Foundation and the Salem Community Center's STOMP children's fitness program.
Participating runners and walkers should check in at the Salem Community Center's auxiliary gym, beginning at 8 a.m., on the day of the race. The run/walk will start at 9 a.m. at the community center, with the 5K course continuing through adjacent Waterworth Memorial Park. The pre-registration fee is $20, and participants who register by June 20 will receive a free T-shirt. The cost to register on race day is $25.

Leetonia Library plans history programs
LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library will hold several upcoming history programs, including two in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of World War I. The first covers the causes and outbreak of the war and will be held at 6 p.m. June 23. The second covers the nation's entry into the "Great War" as well as the end of the conflict, and is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 15. The Battle of Gettysburg of the nation's Civil War will be the topic at 6 p.m. July 1.

Burtzland Outfitters to hold competition
ALLIANCE - Burtzland Outfitters will hold its second official United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA ) competition on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and running until about 1 p.m.
There are between 20 to 30 rounds fired at each stage on multiple targets with walls and barricades that competitors must move through.
Competitors are scored for accuracy and their time is factored into a formula to give their overall "hit factor."
