SUNRISE, Ariz. - Kathryn Lou McDevitt, 90, of Sunrise, Ariz., passed away on May 23, 2014. She was at home with her daughter Kathy at the time of her passing.
She was born in Wheeling, W. Va., on March 29, 1924 to the late Ronald and Theresa Jackson.
Kathryn graduated from Salineville High School. She married the late Duwayne McDevitt Sr. in Painesville, Ohio, on Dec. 12, 1942. He died Dec. 16, 1989.
Kathryn McDevitt was a loving wife and mother of five. She and Duwayne and their family lived most of their lives in southern Ohio near their parents' farms where they grew up. After retirement, the couple lived in Phoenix for the winters.
Kathryn is survived by three children, Vernon Lee McDevitt of Winona, Ohio, Gary Dean McDevitt of Salem, Ohio, and her daughter Kathryn Jean McDevitt of Sunrise, Ariz.. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a sister, Hariette Diehl.
Preceding her in death were two sons, Duwayne Jr. and Lawrence; four brothers, Stan, Harry, Kenny and Ed; a sister, Alice Salter; and a granddaughter, Tonya McDevitt.
Family calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Maple-Cotton Funeral Home. Public calling hours will be held one hour before the time of the funeral, from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton.
