South Range student holds
shoe drive to help the needy
BEAVER TOWNSHIP - South Range Middle School sixth grader, Addie Flowers has been conducting a service project for the Rescue Mission of Youngstown by holding a shoe drive for those in need. This is her second year collecting shoes for the mission. "She is doing this simply because she wants to," said Principal Dan Szoleck. A representative for the Rescue Mission will visit the school at 12:30 p.m. today to collect the shoes and thank Flowers.

Salem Area Amateur Radio
Association will meet June 5
SALEM - The Salem Area Amateur Radio Association's monthly meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. June 5 at the Circle of Care on East Pershing Street.
Guests and new members are welcome to attend. Field Day will be one of the topics to be discussed which will be held on June 28 starting with set-up at 10 a.m. and contacts starting at 2 p.m. The location will be discussed at meeting.
Salem Community Foundation
scholarships are available
SALEM - Current college students interested in applying for Salem Community Foundation (SCF) scholarships are reminded they can pick up applications now at the Salem Community Center or Salem Public Library. The application may also be downloaded via the scholarship link on the foundation's website at salemcommunityfoundation.org.
Consideration will be given to students on the basis of class level (senior, junior and sophomore) and financial need. The scholarship committee will determine scholarship amounts under the guidelines established by the SCF. Scholarships will be awarded for the fall 2014 term.
Applicants must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, a minimum class load of six semester hours, and be a resident of Salem city or Perry Township. All applications must be received in the SCF's office by June 11 to be considered for an award.
Salem Community Theatre
schedules audition dates
SALEM - Salem Community Theatre has scheduled audition dates for its highly anticipated production of Mel Brookes' musical comedy "The Producers," the Theatre's summer musical presentation.
Auditions will be held at 6 p.m. June 10 and 11 at 490 E. State St. Director Tyler Stouffer and choreographer Joanna Andrei are seeking for actors/singers/dancers for a variety of roles, ages 16 and over, including five principal men, one principal woman, six female dancers, four male dancers, and an ensemble of 10-15 singers to make up cameo roles and ensemble.
No one under 16 years of age will be permitted to audition. Prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. At the audition you will be notified if you have a callback and you will be given vocal and script sides to study for the callback.
Those auditioning should note that you will have the option to audition for just a singer or a singer/ dancer. If you wish to audition for singer/ dancer wear clothes to move in and bring all dance shoes you have (including taps). Also, to be considered for the roles of Leo and Ulla you must do a dance call.
Rehearsals will commence on June 15. Show dates are Aug. 1, 2, 3 and 8, 9 and 10. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

holding trash/treasure sale
COLUMBIANA A diamond ring and original oil painting by a local artist will be raffled off at the second annual trash/treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church.
Besides vendors tables and sale items, there will be a Chinese auction and a 50/50 drawing. Lunch will be available which includes sloppy joes, pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, sides and beverage. This event is sponsored by Thrivent Chapter 30766. The church is located at 415 S. Main St.

Faith Chapel Fellowship
will serve its community
SALEM - From 10 a.m. to noon June 8, Faith Chapel Fellowship will demonstrate to the Salem community what it means to "Be the church." Known as "Do Something Sunday," volunteers from the church will be at locations throughout the city completing a variety of service projects.
Some of the activities include a free car wash and a free car care stop located in the Arby's parking lot. This is an opportunity for single moms and others to have someone inspect their car at no cost.
Lawn care will be performed at the homes of some of the city's elderly and widows. Another group will clean up the municipal lot across from the former Timberlanes.
The Laundry Love Ministry, helping people with their laundry needs, will be at the Quaker Laundry in the Salem Plaza.
Another group will visit residents at Essex I and II, at 1 and 2 p.m., to share devotions and sing.
Volunteers will greet people at Walmart and distribute bottled water and doughnuts. Other groups will be visiting blighted areas in Salem delivering personal hygiene items and friendly encouragement.
"It is the church's mission to share Christ's love by serving the people in our community, doing things to help the people of Salem," said Marilee Bodendorfer, public relations coordinator at the church. "We are very concerned about the needs in Salem and we want to 'Do Something' about it. It begins with people in the community stepping up and saying, 'How can we help you?'"
County Park District's bike
rodeo is Saturday at trail
LISBON - Columbiana County Park District's bike rodeo is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Greenway Trail P.L. and W. Railroad Station, 232 S. Market St.
Prizes will be awarded for Balance Beam, Tight Turn, Stop on a Dime and other challenges.

Church holding rummage sale
LISBON - The Lisbon First United Methodist Church, 114 E. Washington St., will hold its annual rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 7 in the fellowship hall. A luncheon and bake sale will be held on Friday during the sale.
Blood drive scheduled at
Alliance Community Hospital
ALLIANCE - An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 12:30 to 6 p.m. June 5 in conference room 1-A at Alliance Community Hospital. All eligible donors are asked to schedule an appointment for this drive in order to help "head off" a severe shortage down the road.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age (unless 16 with a signed consent form from a parent/guardian), weigh no less than 110 pounds and be in general good health. A photo ID or donor card must be presented at the time of the donation.
