PITTSBURGH - Paula Maria Cope, 69, died May 10 At UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness.
Born June 29, 1944, in Ballston Spa, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Paul D. and Philomena (Derosa) Mitchell.
Mrs. Cope graduated from Ballston Spa High School and after graduation worked at the New York State Offices as an executive secretary. She was a member of the East Palestine Church of the Nazarene. She also worked 23 years at Heck's Restaurant of Columbiana, retiring due to her illness in 2011.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years, James Cope, whom she married in 1980; two sons, Robert (Laura) Hart of Manasquan, N.J., and Steven (Joanna) Hart of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; a daughter Candice (Ronald) Desanzo of East Palestine; two stepdaughters Kristi (Timothy) Hofus of Anza, Calif., and Nancy (Bill) Hostetter of Washingtonville; four sisters, Rosalie (Robert) Burke and Darlene (Michael) DeLancey of Saratoga Springs N.Y., Donna (Frederick) Maynard of Malta N.Y., and Gilda (Raymond) Gocal of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday the East Palestine Church of the Nazarene, 38 E. Rebecca St., East Palestine. Pastor Pamela Price will officiate. A light luncheon reception will follow at the parsonage, 391 E. Grant St., East Palestine.
