JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - Alice M. Oana, 91, of Johns Creek, Ga., formerly of Salem, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Autumn Leaf Nursing Home in Suwanee, Ga.
She was born Feb. 8, 1923 in Beaver Falls, Pa., a daughter of the late George and Josephine (Chulak) Sobona.
Alice had been office manager for the Lowry Supply in Salem for 27 years and was a Salem High School graduate. She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church and the Salem Elks Lodge 305 Women's Auxiliary. She volunteered with the Hello Unit at the hospital, was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. She was past national president of AMVETS Auxiliary and because of this she and her team were able to initiate the War Memorial in Salem.
She and her husband, enjoyed Saturday night dancing for many years.
Her husband, Mateiu "Mike" Oana Jr., whom she married July 26, 1947, preceded her in death Aug. 16, 2002. A son, Ted Oana also preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1966.
Survivors include a son, Jay (Mary) Oana of Johns Creek, Ga.; three grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Oana of Columbia, S.C., Shawn (Melanie) Oana of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jami (Dr. Garrod) Moss of Mississippi; and two great-grandsons.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Robert Edwards officiating. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Stark Memorial
Funeral Home with an Elks Lodge 305 Women's Auxiliary Service at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Project Hello, 1995 E. State St, Salem; St. Paul School, 935 E. State Street, Salem; Our Lady's Purse, St. Paul Catholic Church, 935 E. State St; and Salem Alumni Association, 330 E. State St, Salem, OH 44460.
