Chicken on the Run served today
SALEM - Chicken on the Run drive-thru chicken dinners will be sold from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway Ave.
The meal includes a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie. Cost is $7.
WB kindergarten registration continues
BELOIT - The West Branch Local School District's kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year continues from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Any student who will be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 30, 2014, is eligible to register.

Choir will lead worship today at Crestview
COLUMBIANA The Teen Challenge men's choir will lead worship when the Crestview Churches Community Concerns (4C's) host a National Day of Prayer gathering at 7 p.m. today in the band room at Crestview High School, 44100 Crestview Road.
The event is open to the public and features members of the community who will lead prayers for government, military, media, business, education, churches and families.
A historical look at "The Star-Spangled Banner" will be presented by the Rev. Susan Antolik, pastor of East Fairfield United Methodist Church. American Legion Post 290 of Columbiana will open the gathering with the presentation of colors.
Linda Allender, 4C's president, will give a brief update on the organization's outreach efforts during the past year. The main focus of the group is its operation of a food pantry at Abundant Life Fellowship every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The pantry is an affiliate of the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. An offering will be collected for the pantry.
The prayer event is organized by New Waterford natives Jerry and Marilyn Mong. Refreshments will be provided by Dollar General of New Waterford and Sparkle Market.
Breakfast will benefit Sebring SB League
SEBRING - The public is invited to a benefit breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the American Legion on California Avenue.
Proceeds will be directed to the Sebring Girls Softball League. Cost is $7 for the all-you-can-eat meal which includes coffee and juice. A 50/50 drawing will be held.
BC Wildlife Ed Center will open Saturday
EAST LIVERPOOL - The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will open for the 2014 season on May 3 and remain open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 5.
New displays include a bird nest, two bald eagle mounts, an arctic fox and a piebald deer. Also new this year is a rotating display of large wildlife using mounts on loan from stark parks.
During May, visitors can view full body mounts of an African lion, a leopard, and a bobcat to compare their size and colors. Each month will feature a different display. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. For more information visit beavercreekwildlife.org.
Grandparents breakfast planned at SR
BEAVER TOWNSHIP - South Range Elementary first graders are inviting their grandparents to visit them at school at 8:45 a.m. May 9. Grandparents will share breakfast with the students and watch a patriotic program that will honor the U.S.A. and those in the military, past and present. Students will sing songs and perform dances.
Grandparents will then have an opportunity to see what a typical day is like for their grandchild and visit them in their classrooms. "This is a very special day that everyone looks forward to. There is not a dry eye in the room when the students perform their program," said Elementary Principal Steve Matos.
SRMC sponsoring blood drive on May 14
SALEM - The Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 in tower conference rooms one and two, located on SRMC's ground floor concourse.

New programs offered at Lisbon Pool
LISBON - The Sadie Van Fossan Lisbon Pool has a number of new programs set for the summer season. Swimming lessons, aquatic classes, swim team and water safety are available.

MRCCTC students holding plant sale
CANFIELD - Students in the horticulture program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center (MRCCTC) will hold the school's annual spring plant sale beginning Monday. Students have prepared items including assorted annuals, hanging baskets and fresh vegetables. Flats of flowers will also be available.
The horticulture green house will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday thru Friday the month of May until all items are sold.

'Tribute to Dixie' planned at United
HANOVERTON - United Choir Boosters are sponsoring a musical event, "A Tribute to Dixie" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in United High School auditorium.
Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Featuring favorite songs from the south, all proceeds will go toward senior scholarships.
EP Library chosen for Guiding Ohio Online
EAST PALESTINE -The East Palestine Memorial Public Library is one of 30 libraries in the state of Ohio selected to participate in the Guiding Ohio Online program. Guiding Ohio Online is a new AmeriCorps program looking for flexible, caring individuals committed to community service to deliver digital literacy training through computer classes, one-on-one computer assistance, outreach, and volunteer recruitment in rural Ohio libraries.
Guiding Ohio Online will engage 10 full-time AmeriCorps members and 20 part-time AmeriCorps members to serve between Oct. 1, 2014-Aug. 29, 2015 throughout Ohio.
The East Palestine Memorial Public Library is now providing AmeriCorps applications for a part-time 11-month position that will focus on improving the digital literacy skills of the community. A description and requirements of the position can be obtained at the library during regular business hours.
