LISBON - Alva Donald Moats Sr., 74, of Trinity Church Road, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday at the Salem Regional Medical Center following a recent illness.
Born Sept. 17, 1939, in Barbour County, W. Va., he was the son of the late Harold Moats and the late Virginia (Morrison) Costlow.
Mr. Moats worked as a heavy equipment mechanic, retiring in 2005 from Trans-Spec in Columbiana. He was an Army veteran, having served in Germany during peacetime.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lillie (May) Moats, whom he married Oct. 26, 1963; daughters, Rebecca (Jack) Meighen of Canton, Carla Moats of Lisbon, and Mary (Randy) Wilson of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; sons, Mark (fiancee, Samantha Jones) Moats of Fort Knox, Ky., and Don Moats Jr. of Lisbon; a sister, Nancy Ours of Elkins, W.Va.; brothers, James Oran (Norma) Moats of Hanoverton and Isaac Moats of Coaltown, W. Va.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with lay minister and brother-in-law, Fred May, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.Thursday at the funeral home.
