The wonder of it all!

April 21, 2014
Salem News

Like the rest of us who drive, Celeste Baronzzi was experiencing that sinking feeling while negotiating area roadways and business parking lots that resemble lunar landscapes with all of the craters and potholes. She decided to couple her frustration with creativity and a keen sense of humor. She cleverly assumed some character's roles and dressed the parts, posing recently with a particularly deep pothole located in the parking lot of the Eastgate Plaza Shopping Center in Salem. Here she makes like Alice in Wonderland and -wonder is right! - shortly after this photo was taken this pothole was filled leaving just hundreds of more across our area needing attention. Baronzzi and her husband, John Gamble, who is an assistant county prosecutor, have two children and reside outside of Salem. She has fun mimicking and posting online other characters including copying the image of actress Angelina Jolie sticking her leg out at the 2012 Oscars that went viral worldwide. Her series of photos are presented on her Facebook for friends to chuckle over and enjoy. "I tend to do some kind of series of photos on something current or in the news," Baronzzi said. "It didn't start out as a plan but kind of evolved. I do it periodically when things strike me. Everyone likes it so I started doing it. This one (the pothole series) drew a lot of attention." Baronzzi, a trained counselor and cross-country coach at United Local, is reluctant to open her Facebook to the public because of privacy concerns but the Salem News feels our frustrated pothole-avoiding drivers would enjoy some comic relief. Also shown are some other roles she staged. (Photos courtesy Celeste Baronzzi)
