Senior seminar today at Copeland Oaks
SEBRING - A free senior living seminar, featuring national expert Rick Hunsicker, will be held today at Copeland Oaks. Two sessions are offered: a lunch session at 11:30 a.m. and a dinner session at 5 p.m. Seating is limited. A meal is included with the seminar which will be held in the Copeland Oaks Murphy Auditorium. The seminar is open to the public.

West Branch BOE to meet Wednesday
BELOIT- The West Branch school board will meet in special session at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the high school conference room to interview prospective legal counsel. There will also be an executive session to confer with an attorney concerning disputes involving the board that are subject to pending or imminent court action. No action to be taken.

Dale Shaffer Appreciation Day set April 17
SALEM - The Salem Historical Society will host Dale Shaffer Appreciation Day on April 17, which would have been his 85th birthday, with the placement of the marker of the Dale Shaffer Legacy Time Capsule dedicated in 2013. This event begins at 10 a.m. on the front lawn of the Dale Shaffer Research Library on Dale Shaffer Way.
The burial of the time capsule was not only to commemorate the life and contributions of Shaffer but share with future Salem citizens of the time period in which the capsule was buried when it will be reopened in 2063. Wedgewood Pizza sponsors egg hunt
SALEM - Wedgewood Pizza at the Salem Plaza will hold an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday for children up to and including age 10. 'Damn Yankees' on stage at Crestview
COLUMBIANA - Crestview High School will present "Damn Yankees" at 7 p.m. April 25 and 26 in the Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6:30 to purchase tickets. Cost is $4 for students, $6 for adults and free for children 4 and under.
Saxon scholarships applications offered
SALEM - Application forms are now available in the guidance offices at Salem High School, West Branch High School, and United Local High School for the Salem Saxon scholarships. All students who meet eligibility are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and plan to attend or be enrolled in a post high school educational program in the fall of 2014. Applications may also be requested by calling Barbara Spack at 330-337-7487 after 5 p.m. The completed scholarship applications and attachments are due no later than May 31 and scholarship awards will be presented on July 11 at the Saxon Club. This will be the 29th year that scholarships will be awarded to high school graduates.

Grant to aid Second Harvest Food Bank
YOUNGSTOWN - The Youngstown Foundation has awarded ` a $10,000 grant toward a capital improvement project that will help update the food bank's food ordering and tracking system.
"This will help to ensure that the Food Bank can distribute food more food more efficiently to hungry families in our community," said Mike Iberis, executive director of the food bank.

Crematory to open in Columbiana
COLUMBIANA - Jon W. Rettig Sr. of the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home of Columbiana, the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home of Leetonia, and the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home of East Palestine, has announced the opening of the first crematory in Columbiana County.
Family Care Cremation Services was licensed by the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors of the State of Ohio on April 1 and is the only crematory in Columbiana County.
The cremator, located at the Columbiana funeral home, was custom manufactured by CMS of Tulsa, Okla., is the latest in crematory technology and has been issued a final permit to operate by the Ohio EPA. "We recognized that as the funeral profession continues to change and cremation rates increase, having the ability to fulfill our client families wishes without using a third party crematory was not only important to us, but equally important to the families whom we serve. We are very proud to be the first funeral homes in Columbiana County to offer families on site cremations as well as the assurance that their loved one will not leave our care," said Rettig. "We are also able to directly supervise all cremations by a licensed funeral director."
