LISBON - An East Palestine man convicted of OVI was fined $675 and sentenced to three days in jail during action in Columbiana County Municipal Court.
Joseph M. Morris, 41, of Lincoln Avenue, was found guilty of OVI, driving under suspension and failure to wear a seat belt. His jail sentence and $300 of his fine were suspended provided he attends drug intervention classes. He was also placed on probation for two years and his license suspended for six months.
Morris was cited following a traffic stop in East Palestine on Feb. 7.
In other court action, a preliminary hearing of April 21 was scheduled in the case of Joseph M. Smith, 28, West Ninth Street, Salem, who was charged with burglarizing the apartment of Derek Johnson, East Fifth Street, Salem, on Sunday. Smith reportedly broke into the apartment and knocked over a dresser and TV.
Jason E. Tice, 36, West Ninth Street, East Liverpool, pleaded innocent to possessing drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension and driving left of center, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for May 22.
Tice was arrested in Wellsville on Sunday after police on patrol saw his vehicle parked in front of a known drug house. Tice drove away but reportedly crossed the center line, resulting in the traffic stop. While searching his vehicle police found a suspected crack pipe.
John M. Elliott, 38, North Sumner Street, East Palestine, pleaded guilty as charged to domestic violence and will be sentenced on May 15. Elliott was arrested Friday at his home for allegedly grabbing, choking and pushing Dakota Mitchell during an argument Mitchell was having with his mother. Mitchell was pushed into a window, cutting his head.
A pretrial hearing date of June 2 was scheduled in the case of Cheyenne L. Hoops, 19, Seacrist Road, Salem, after she pleaded innocent to underage consumption of alcohol. The charge resulted from a Perry Township police call about someone being dragged behind a motor vehicle on West Pidgeon Road at 3:08 a.m. Saturday. In the course of the investigation, Hoops reportedly admitted to police to having been driving and consuming an alcoholic beverage.
