SALEM - Joseph J. Armeni, 88, of Salem, died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born Nov. 21, 1925 in Salem, a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Monteleone) Armeni. Joe was a self-employed barber in Salem for about 50 years and retired in 2001. He donated all of his barber equipment to the Salem Historical Society.
He was a member of the St Paul Catholic Church, a 1943 graduate of Salem High School, and a member of the Salem Italian Club. During the Korean War he served in the U. S. Army and started barbering in the Army.
Joe was an avid Notre Dame football fan and loved the New York Yankees.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie (Ieropoli) Armeni, whom he married June 12, 1954; four sons, Joseph Armeni of Salem, Michael (Lea) Armeni of Bloomingdale, Illinois, Anthony (Amy) Armeni of Fort Mill, SC, and John (Dawn) Armeni of Hoschton, GA; and 10 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James V. and Dominic Armeni and a sister, Katherine Armeni.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Robert Edwards officiating. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Grandview Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Salem Honor Guard.
