Salvation Army offering lunches, programs
SALEM - The Salvation Army at 1249 N. Ellsworth Ave. offers a hot lunch and program from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week, as well as Monday through Friday the last week of the month.
The public is invited, free of charge.
Breakfast fundraiser, egg hunt is April 19
SALEM A pancake breakfast fundraiser and an Easter egg hunt will be held April 19 at the Salvation Army, 1249 N. Ellsworth Ave.
The Salvation Army Teen Group will host the pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. to raise funds for missions to Uruguay.
Cost is $5.50 for adults, $4 for children and free for 3 and under. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee, milk and orange juice will be served.
The free community Easter egg hunt for children ages 5 through 12 kicks off at noon. A free hot dog lunch follows.
County Democrat dinner changes locales
EAST LIVERPOOL - The Columbiana County Democrat spring $100 dinner venue has changed due to the closing of the East Liverpool Motor Lodge.
The dinner will be held on April 10 at the East Liverpool Country Club. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. For more information call Patty Colian at 330-831-2169.
CCC&TC hosting Heroes and Halos
LISBON - The Columbiana County Career and Technical Center (CCC&TC) will be hosting Heroes and Halos along with All Caring Hospice as they treat some deserving caregivers to a day of beauty on April 11 and 25.
Nominees were collected from children and family service social workers, Heroes and Halos volunteers as well as All Caring Hospice staff members to recognize those women who sacrifice every day to care for their special needs children and/or terminally ill family members.
Students of the CCC&TC cosmetology program will provide haircuts, color, manicures/pedicures and make-up application to these deserving women with a spa-inspired luncheon provided by All Caring Hospice. Sessions will run from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Southern plans kindergarten registration
SALINEVILLE - Southern Local Schools has scheduled two extra days, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 15 and 16, for kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year.
Parents/guardians will complete registration forms on those days and screening appointments will be scheduled for May 8 or 9. The prospective kindergarten student must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2014, and a resident of Southern Local.
Parents must present their drivers license or photo ID and must have the child's birth certificate, up-to-date immunization record, Social Security card, proof of residency and custody documents, if applicable. For more information call the school at 330-679-2301 Ext. 250 or 251.
Heritage Group will hear WWII veteran
CANFIELD - The Mahoning Valley Historical Heritage Group will hear a veteran of the European War return to complete his story about the dramatic events of the air war over Europe.
The monthly meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. April 21 at Ala Carte Catering in Canfield, with dinner preceding the speech.
Speaker Wallace King, who previously shared his story in March of 2013, was a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot.
One of the incidents he spoke of last March was the loss of his wingman and that story will now be told: "Whatever happened to Jack?" The meeting is open to the public, but reservations are required by contacting David Frank, president, at 330-757-0515 before April 18.
Breakfast scheduled April 12 canceled
NEW WATERFORD - The pancake breakfast on April 12 at the New Waterford United Methodist Church has been canceled. The next breakfast will be held on May 10.
