SALEM - Karen Louise (Sneddon) Paxson, 75, peacefully passed away Saturday evening at the Salem Regional Medical Center, Salem, Ohio, after an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 23, 1938 to William and Ruth (Moore) Sneddon in Greenford, Ohio, was baptized and attended Salem's Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and graduated from Salem High School in 1956.
Following high school, she worked at Ohio Bell's Salem office for a number of years while her husband-to-be, Gary Paxson, attended Fenn College in Cleveland (nka Cleveland State).
Karen and Gary were married on Nov. 28, 1958, celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary last November. In 1962, they moved to San Diego, where they resided for the next 11 years before returning to Ohio in 1973 at Karen's insistence to be closer to family.
They settled in Canton, Ohio, where she worked for a number of years as a bank teller and loan officer for several banking institutions, including GenFed and Hoover Company Credit Unions.
Following Gary's retirement from Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio, they relocated to Salem to be even closer to relatives.
She was an avid golfer at Firestone Country Club, Shady Hollow County Club, and Salem Golf Club, as well as a proficient bridge player on a number of leagues in Canton and Salem.
She is survived by one brother, Charles (Coletta) Sneddon, of Pickerington, Ohio; her husband Gary Paxson; one daughter, Debra Paxson of Salem, Ohio; one son, Allen (Dawn) Paxson, and three grandchildren, Alyssa, Nicolas, and Amanda, all of Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sandra (Sneddon) Blair, and two brothers, James Sneddon and Earl Sneddon.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday April 9, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 291 S. Broadway Ave., Salem, Ohio, with a memorial service to follow; Pastor Alan Smearsoll officiating. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
