Jr. women's league recruiting vendors
CANFIELD - The Junior Women's League of Canfield is recruiting vendors for the 45th annual fall market event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 on the Village Green. Participating vendors may range from home-based businesses to arts and crafts merchandise to non-profit organizations. Proceeds from the fall market benefit the community and also provide scholarships for local high school students. For more information call 330-506-4347.
La Leche League group to meet
LISBON - The Salem-Lisbon La Leche League, a breastfeeding support group, will meet at 7 p.m. April 8 at the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, 111 E. Chestnut St. The discussion topic will be "Nutrition and Weaning." All pregnant or nursing mothers and their babies are welcome. R-Weigh groups hold meetings
SALEM - Francie Tuel, Sue Carver, Patty Miles, Sandy McGarr, Carol Jules and Nancy Hough celebrated their birthdays by serving a low-fat low-calorie luncheon at the afternoon meeting of R-Weigh on Monday at the First Friends Church. A loss of 36 pounds was recorded for the week. Rachel Weaver opened the meeting with a prayer. Miles was the goalie for the week. Shirley Dias announced the monthly good losers and Sylvia Eller paid the members $1 per pound for their March losses.
Karen Pauline presided at the evening meeting and Chris Learn was secretary pro temp. Patty Hartman and Ruth Miller announced the good losers and Gerry Heffinger, treasurer pro temp, paid the members $1 per pound for their March losses. The good losers for the week receiving monetary awards were Pauline Zirkle, Renea Olson, Sherril Emch and Candy Penner. Jean Swartz received a monetary award for losing weight over her vacation.
The Eggcouragement contest members at both groups kept their eggs for their weekly losses or placed their eggs in the Easter basket if they gained. Gainers read a note of "eggcouragement" to the members. New members are welcome. For more information call 330-332-1078.
CCW to learn about parasols
COLUMBIANA - Community Christian Women will meet April 14 at the Zion Hill Brethern Church in Columbiana. Shirley Griffen will present "Meeting New Friends" using Victorian parasols. A luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m.. Cost is $6. Family tree study set for Salem Historical Society?meeting
SALEM - The Salem Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. April 8. The program, "Climbing Your Family Tree" will be presented by Cassie Bailey Yarsky.
Yarsky, a 1968 Salem graduate with a degree from Kent State University, first became interested in genealogy after going through her grandmother's photos and mementos. For the last 10 years, she has worked on her family's genealogy every day. Yarsky has traced and documented both sides of her family back to the 1600s in America and one side of the family back to England in the 1500s. She is a member of the Pickaway Plains Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, where she is the current registrar, a member of the Pickaway County Historical Society, and a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society. A township fiscal officer in central Ohio, she volunteers transcribing records for the Ancestry World Archives Online Project and is a contributing member to Find a Grave.

SRMC to offer CPR, AED class
SALEM - A free Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class, provided by Salem Regional Medical Center, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. April 15 in the medical center's second-floor classrooms. Instruction will be provided on basic CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use and techniques to relieve choking for adult, child and infant victims. A certification card is not provided for this class. Pre-registration is required by calling 330-332-7636.
