Crash closes U.S. 62

April 1, 2014
Salem News

Above, Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Race Baker of the Lisbon post takes a photo while an Ohio Edison worker calls for more help on U.S. Route 62, just north of the bypass outside Salem, where this truck hauling steel coils traveled off of the side of the road and rolled over, taking a utility pole, transformer and electrical lines with it shortly after 1 p.m. Monday. The driver, Steve Lucas, of Cecil, wasn't injured, but was cited for failure to control. The Ohio Department of Transportation closed the road for several hours between the bypass and state Route 165, while tow truck operators worked to clear the scene, including Davidson of Salem. Perry Township Police and Fire Departments responded, with Goshen Township Police and Salem Police directing traffic. A deer carcass seen on the side of the road next to the truck had already been there. The accident caused an estimated 20 to 100 homes in the area, including homes on North Lincoln Avenue in Salem, to lose power for several hours as crews attempted to unravel the wires from the wreckage and restore power.
