SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The meal will be sponsored by the Kent State University Nursing Program. The menu is unavailable at this time.
Knox Elementary students prepare
'buckle up' safety belt posters
KNOX TOWNSHIP - Students at Knox Elementary School have prepared several posters with personalized safety belt messages encouraging motorists to "buckle up."
Knox Township Trustee Gregory Carver coordinated the poster campaign with school administrators to demonstrate support for law enforcement and stress the importance of "buckling up."
Personnel from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lisbon Post will visit Knox Elementary School at 10 a.m. Tuesday to thank the students, school personnel, and Carver for supporting the mission of promoting traffic through voluntary compliance with the safety belt law.
Building Doctor Clinic will be
held April 3 at KSU City Center
SALEM - The Building Doctor Clinic will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. April 3 at Kent State University City Center auditorium, 230 N. Lincoln Ave.
Area residents are invited to hear restoration experts describe how to recognize and solve common old building problems like peeling paint, falling plaster, wet basements, deteriorating masonry, damaged wood, window repair, etc. The experts will also answer your questions.
The program is free to the public. Funding is provided by Ohio Historical Society and Salem Preservation Society. Registration is required in advance at building-doctor.org or 800-499-2470.

Guilford Lake Civic Association
will host first meeting on April 24
LISBON - The Guilford Lake Civic Association will host its first meeting of 2014 at 7 p.m. April 24 at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on state Route 172. Ruth Ann Rinto and Wendy Doyle will be speaking on United Local's permanent improvement levy.
Members are reminded that payment is due for the flag program and may be sent to Rilla Gill, 33343 Baker Road, Lisbon, Ohio 44432. Cost is $25 for one flag and $45 for two flags. For orders of more than two contact Bob Gause.
SRMC's Water Exercise Together
class will begin April 7 at SCC
SALEM Salem Regional Medical Center's Water Exercise Together (WET) class allows residents of all ages to enjoy the benefits of exercise, without excess strain on the joints and muscles.
The next six-week session of WET begins April 7 at the Salem Community Center, and will combine elements of Tae Bo, Yoga and traditional aerobics to help class participants exercise their way to better balance.
Classes meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Participants can attend any two sessions per week. The total program cost is $55. Pre-registration for the class is required by calling 330-332-7771.
UCT #590 hosting Easter
egg hunt on April 19
SALEM - United Commercial Travelers #590 is hosting its annual Easter egg hunt for children ages 2 through 10 at 11 a.m. April 19 at Centennial Park. The event will be held "rain or shine."
The Easter Bunny will greet children and chocolate Easter bunnies will be awarded to children who find specially marked eggs.
The children at Robert Bycroft School will also be treated to an egg hunt at 1 p.m. April 17.
