SALEM - Helen M. Bass, 87, of Salem, formerly of Barberton, died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Assumption Village in North Lima.
She was born April 12, 1926 in Barberton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Shorts) Sutter.
Mrs. Bass was a graduate of Barberton High School and before her retirement, she had worked at the former Barberton Citizens Hospital as an inhalation therapist for 35 years.
She had lived 85 1/2 years in Barberton and for the past couple of years she lived in Salem. Helen was a member of the St. Augustine Church in Barberton and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem.
She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and loved the Lord. She loved to dance and help people.
Her husband, Richard A. Bass, whom she married Oct. 3, 1943, preceded her in death May 26, 2002. Two sisters and six brothers also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Richard M. (Mary) Bass of Salem; three grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem with Father Robert Edwards officiating.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the St. Augustine Church in Barberton with Father Matthew Glaros officiating.
There are no calling hours. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
