Salem Masons to offer breakfast buffet
SALEM-The public is invited to a breakfast buffet from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Building, 788 E. State St. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2. The menu offers pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea.
The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator. Proceeds will be directed to the Salem Masonic Building Fund.
'Shrek' on stage tonight at South Range
BEAVER TWP. - "Shrek: The Musical," comprised of characters from a variety of fairy tales, angry villagers, noble knights, dancers and tap-dancing rats, begins at 7 p.m. today and Saturday at South Range High School. The cast is comprised of 54 students in elementary, middle and high school. Students, staff and community volunteers have also built the different back drops and props that will be used on the stage.
Marlene Palo pasta dinner benefit set
EAST PALESTINE - The Marlene Palo pasta dinner benefit will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the East Palestine Elementary School cafeteria on West Grant Street. Palo is a teacher at the middle school.
Cost is $6 for a pasta dinner with meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and a beverage, and free for 4 and under. Carryouts are available There also will be raffle baskets and $5 chances to win a 24-inch flat screen TV with built-in DVD player. All proceeds go to the Marlene Palo benefit fund.
Family Fit Day planned in Alliance
ALLIANCE - Alliance High School and the University of Mount Union will host a "Family Fit and Fun Day" from 2 to 4 p.m. March 29 in the high school gymnasium.
Activities include unicycle riding, line dancing, a bounce house, Nintendo Wii yoga and Zumba. Prizes will be available to participants in the scavenger hunt. The gym will offer equipment to play basketball, volleyball, badminton, scooters, football and parachute. There will also be complimentary health screenings to test blood pressure and BMI, healthy snacks and information from the Alliance City Health Department.
Students in Associate Professor of Human Performance and Sport Business Dr. Beth Canfield-Simbro's health education class are planning the event which is free and open to the public. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Kindergarten registration at Southern Local
SALINEVILLE - Southern Local Schools has scheduled its kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year from 4 to 6 p.m. March 31 and April 1, and from 9 a.m. to noon April 5 in the elementary cafeteria. Parents/guardians will complete registration forms on those days. Screening times will be scheduled for a later date and time. The prospective kindergarten student must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2014, and a resident of the Southern Local District.
Parents must present their driver license or photo ID and must have the child's birth certificate, up-to-date immunization record, Social Security card, proof of residency and custody documents, if applicable. For more information call 330-679-2301.
Cutting Edge Manufacturing event planned
CANFIELD - Cutting Edge Manufacturing, a two-day event at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center (MCC&TC), aims to educate participants and change perspectives on careers in the growing field of manufacturing.
On March 27, parents, students and individuals are invited to attend an evening event featuring Jeremy Bout of Edge Factor. The evening event begins at 6:30 p.m. with the keynote session beginning at 7 p.m.
Attendees can also visit with local manufacturers at the event's Manufacturing Fair to learn more about career and educational opportunities.
On March 28, more than 500 freshmen students from throughout Mahoning County will visit MCC&TC for a special Manufacturing Day. Students will take part in a media rich presentation from Bout where they will learn how the world of manufacturing continues to advance and how they can create their own pathway to a successful career in this growing industry. The event is presented by the MCC&TC and Oh-Penn Pathways to Competitiveness Project, a project funded by a US DOL Workforce Innovation Fund grant administered by West Central Job Partnership.
The public event on March 27 is free and open to the community.
Swim clinic set at Community Center
SALEM - The Salem Community Center is offering a six week swim clinic April 15 through May 22, from 5 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The goal of the clinic is to prepare swimmers for their upcoming summer swim seasons. The clinic is open to all age group swimmers. Cost is $60 for members and $80 for non-members.
