NEW SPRINGFIELD - The Hummel Gift Shop at 1656 E. Garfield Road will close on Saturday after 40 years.
The owners are retiring, spokesperson Mary Ann Pittman said Tuesday. The store will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. until Friday and the final day, Saturday, it will be open from 10 a.m. until noon.
The closing sale will feature most items from 75 to 90 percent off, she said with family estate items as marked.
"We would like the people to come out and say farewell and get a little piece of history. We've sold all over the world ... we're known all over the world ... Germany, Australia and shipped to Russia. So, if they want a Hummel we have a pretty good selection."
The store started out in a former popcorn warehouse in 1974 and grew to a 40,000-square-foot showroom.
The family run business was once called the "largest and finest in Ohio," Pittman said. "We want people to be able to say their final farewells," she said.
The store has been operating under a soft close since June 13 and selling off 30,000-square-feet of inventory. It has taken almost 10 months to sell most of it.
Fifteen people work at the business.
