SALEM - The city's snow emergency parking ban will take effect at 9 p.m. today and continue until further notice in anticipation of heavy snowfall expected Sunday and Monday. City Service/Safety Director Ken Kenst said the city's salt supply is all right for this next round, but the road crew continues to be conservative in its use, with residents urged to always use caution in times of snow and ice. The ban means the city can tow cars parked on city streets if they impede the progress of snow clearing operations. Residents who normally park in the street need to find an alternative place to park, such as a municipal parking lot or other parking area. Kenst said residents have been very good about it during past storms.
