Library offering drop-in help sessions

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Public Library is offering e-Book drop-in help sessions from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday in the Salchow Room.

The library purchases e-Books from two companies, Ohio Digital Library and Overdrive and Freading.

Participants are to bring their device, power cord, the cord to link it to a computer, their library card and account logins for Adobe and Amazon.

Scholarship Foundation breakfast is Saturday

HANOVERTON - The annual United Community Scholarship Foundation's all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at United High School. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 to 12.

Breakfast specials include omelets, crepes and doughnuts. There is also a silent auction. All proceeds go toward scholarships for United seniors.

Library speaker will discuss ag program

SALEM - Lee Lichtenwalner will present a community-supported agriculture program about the many benefits to health and wellness by eating locally grown foods from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 3 at the Salem Public Library's Quaker Room. Making Kids Count dinner is March 14

BOARDMAN - Invitations have been issued for the second annual benefit dinner for Making Kids Count on March 14 at Avion on the Water. Admission to the event is $40 which includes dinner, dessert and entertainment.

Attendees will also have a chance to win various baskets and items that have been donated by local businesses as well as the grand prize, a 16GB iPad Air with Retina Display.

Diapers and blankets will be collected prior to and at the benefit dinner for the Comfort Kits and Diaper Bank Programs. Items can be dropped off at 7178 W. Blvd. Suite E. For every blanket or box of diapers you bring in, you will get one ticket to be entered into a drawing for the grand prize.

There is no limit on the number of tickets you can receive and you do not need to be in attendance at the dinner to be chosen. To sponsor or attend the event call 330-758-3434 (mkc@makingkidscount.org).

Heartland Christian School hosting auction

COLUMBIANA - Heartland Christian School at 28 Pittsburgh St. will host its 17th annual auction at 10 a.m. March 15. Gym doors open at 8:30 a.m. for preview and registration. There will be a live auction, silent auction, Chinese auction and bake sale.

Auction items available for bid will include theme park, event and attraction tickets, hotel packages, hot-air balloon rides, a private plane ride, dining certificates, themed- baskets, jewelry, furniture, gift cards, and an array of goods and services from local merchants. Local auctioneer Jim Kellner will conduct the live auction.

All participants who register for a bidding number will be entered in a drawing for a free hot-air balloon ride. Heartland Guatemala Missions Team will serve breakfast that morning in the school's home ec room from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 to raise money for its upcoming trip. Donations will be accepted.

SHC hosting one-day concealed carry class

SALEM - On March 2, the Salem Hunting Club is hosting a one-day concealed carry class.

For information and pre-registration call 330-332-9847. Upon successful completion of the class, participants receive certification to begin the application process for concealed carry in Ohio and other states.

South Range offering open enrollment

BEAVER TOWNSHIP- The South Range school district will have state wide open enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year. Applications will be accepted for students in grades kindergarten through 12 and must be picked up in person at the South Range Board of Education office or downloaded on the South Range website Feb. 24 through May 2. No applications will be mailed.

In order to be considered for open enrollment completed applications must be returned in person, to the Board of Education Office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The deadline for completed applications is 4 p.m. on Friday, May 2. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Do not mail applications.

Any application that is mailed will not be considered. No information will be given over the telephone. Any student living in the state of Ohio and entering grades kindergarten through 12 is eligible. One application must be completed for each student. UL schedules kindergarten registration

HANOVERTON - United Local's kindergarten registration for the 2014-15 school year will begin with a parent orientation meeting at 6 p.m. March 11 in the elementary cafeteria.

This will be a brief meeting for parents only. Information will be shared, registration packets distributed and appointments made for screenings which will take place on March 18, 19 and 20.

Children who are residents of United and who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten for the upcoming school year.

Documents that must be presented at the screening along with completed registration packet are a parent's driver's license or photo ID and proof of residency, the child's birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card and custody documents if applicable.
