Fairfield trustees return NW fire pact

FAIRFIELD TWP. - Trustees returned the New Waterford fire contract to the village after discussing it during Thursday's meeting.

Trustee Chairman Bob Hum explained it's a $35,000 a year contract and there is an option for a four-year deal at $33,000 annually.

"Even with the replacement levy we're going to by running a little snug," Hum said, explaining that New Waterford will have to pass an ordinance before the township acts on it.

Trustee Barry Miner pointed out that the five-year average is 25 runs in the township, while noting there were 19 runs in 2013 and 11 in 2012.

"I understand the costs for the fire departments but ..." Miner said.

Hum said, "We're going to have to figure out what to do. The levy only brings in so much."

In other business, Road Supervisor Mel Miller said most of the department's time was spent dealing with snow, the freezing temperatures, rain and winds.

Miller said they were in good shape regarding road salt and noted they received 100 tons.

He said the oil pan for the 2009 truck was replaced under warranty and he distributed building keys to trustees for the new doors.

Miner commended the department for keeping the roads in good shape.

Zoning Officer Kymberly Seabolt said the zoning board still needs people and anyone interested in serving on it can contact her or a trustee at 3062 Fairfield School Road, Columbiana, OH, 44408.

Also, trustees approved a check for Jim Santini Builders for completion of the new windows and doorways in the government building.

Trustees approved a check for $759 for fees in excess of the contract and additional sets of drawings.

Also in other business, trustees authorized Miner to execute the contract with Ohio Jobs for the money to upgrade roads near the Buckeye Realty Transfer plant.

Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 6.
