SALEM - Salem Parks and Recreation now has a website where visitors can learn all about the amenities of the city's many parks and all about the Salem Memorial Building.
The address is www.salemparksandrecreation.com and still has a few bugs to be worked out, but can be accessed for information, schedules and forms.
"I think it's going to serve us well," Recreation Supervisor Shane Franks said.
Franks gave city parks commission members an update recently on the project he started last month.
"We've got it up and published. We still have some kinks to work on, but most people are able to navigate through it," he said.
The site includes downloadable schedules, forms and flyers, a list of upcoming events for both the parks and the Memorial Building, prices for renting rooms and the gym at the Memorial Building or pavilions at the parks, photos of the parks and information about the boards governing both entities, along with employees.
Franks said he had a number of people test out the website for him. Some can access everything with no problem, but for some, part of the pages can't be seen for some reason. He said if there's anyone out there who has some good advice on how to fix that problem or make improvements, give him a call.
Parks Director Steve Faber said he appreciates all the hard work Franks put into the website. He's been pretty excited about it. Faber said he likes that enthusiasm and the fact that Franks wants to make everything better.
The site will be another way to promote the parks and the Memorial Building.
Commission Vice Chairman Terry Hoopes and Chairman John Panezott both said it will be terrific for people to look at schedules and see what's happening.
Faber said they're looking into a possible link with the city government's website.
